Quick question, will an accelerator pedal assembly from a later generation Toy pick up swap into my first generation truck? Is there any particular on that is a direct/minimal modification? I am making a salvage yard run this weekend. My truck has the typical hole in the floor where the original pedal bolted into the floor.

I would just take a photo or get a real good mental image of how yours is connected and looks, and you should be able to tell if one you're looking at will work.

I know people do it, so there must be some that fit without too much work, but I haven't personally done it.

I can't imagine there's too much difference from later years, even though ours are those weird connect-with-the-floor gas pedals.

 

Just be careful that whatever pedal you choose you do not have any binding on the throttle linkage / cable. I tried later factory pedals and Lokar pedals and ended up going back to my original pedal with a custom cover due to throttle cable binding. Clearances are critical for smooth operation of the throttle cable/linkage.

In the 5th picture down is the pedal end of the 2000 post cut off? If so why?

if you look at the pictures , the 2000 pedal post is on the right , I had to move it to the left side to fit properly .. really easy to do
also , I have a 3.4L in mine , with the 3.0L cable , so the mount is a little different . you will have to modify that for your application

Got it. I think what was throwing me off is that its in different positions in difft pictures but looking at what I have on the bench its starting to make sense. Thanks a lot.

I did a similar mod like Corey (Slacker), but with my own little twist so I didn't have to relocate where the throttle cable routes through the firewall. It still uses a 2000 Tacoma pedal with the pivot post flopped the opposite side, but I also cut and re-welded the top half where the cable mounts so it would line up with the factory throttle cable hole. If you have a welder you can mod something easily had your local wrecker. I used a pedal from a late 90's Blazer and welded on the stock cable arm (guaranteed to fit). 10 yrs later with no issues.
