82 rdw manual steering help

Hey guys so I noticed the other day I’m getting some leaking from my steering box (manual no power steering) I’m having a hard time finding the exact replacement due to the specific bolt pattern, if anyone has any advice about re sealing or knows the right part please lmk

I see what you mean about the bolt pattern. I found only one specifically stated to be for Manual Steering, and it doesn't look like yours at all. Third item on list:

https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...ring+gear,7416

The shape & bolt mounting pattern is different from the Power units. However, every other steering gear box shown, listed as for Power steering, seems to have the exact same case shape as yours. Note the "ear" tab for one of the bolts; this isn't found on the "Manual" box I found on Rock Auto, totally different. This makes me wonder. Did Toyota use the power steering gear box for some of the trucks with Manual Steering, & just plug the fluid ports on it? I'm not sure, it's a big maybe. You might want to compare the pics of the "power" steering boxes shown to yours, and see if yours has those ports with plugs in them.

I also found this: https://www.carsteering.com/buynow/1...R?crid=2506930

If spending $200 for a replacement box hurts, and if you're feeling adventurous, you could just replace the leaking oil seal. It's still available from Toyota. You'd have to at least remove your Pitman Arm to get at it, which will require a puller tool, and of course refill the gearbox with 90 weight gear oil. Here's the link to the part:

https://parts.lakelandtoyota.com/sho...roduct=4208451

Part # in diagram 45301B, Toyota Part # 90310-28027. You might also want a new Cotter Pin for the nut on the Pitman Arm; Cotter Pin Part # 9538103022.

If you've never replaced an oil seal before, here is a video that will give you a decent idea about how to do it:
