Power steering box question for a newbie
I have a 92 4runner V6 5speed with 220k on the clock and recently noticed a leak in the power steering box where the shaft meets the steering box.
after some research i can't seem to find any directions on how to replace the seals there or how hard it is to do. However, i did find a ton of threads on how to rebuild the power steering pump itself.
can someone point me to the right direction as to how to replace that seal or is it worth trying some Lucas power steering stop leak?
many thanks

Here's a good write-up on it. Looks like a PITA, and will require an SST or equivalent tool too.

I wouldn't recommend any power steering stop leak. For one thing it's only a temporary fix at best(if it even works at all). For another the power steering system uses ATF(Dexron II,III,V will all work), not power steering fluid.
I'll be tackling this same repair soon too. I have the older style on my 88 and I hope it's not as involved. But I can't seem to find much info on it either.

for the time and money, I just grabbed another box out of a local junk yard for $40, cleaned and repainted it, and was good to go
mine was leaking there at that input seal, AND at the output seal at the pitman arm. I didn't even bother trying to rebuild it... this was on a 91 pickup, and I grabbed a gearbox off of a 94 4Runner, that didn't show any signs of leakage, and the odometer in the 4Runner showed about 130k. bolted right up and worked perfectly
