I have an '82 2wd pickup setting in the backyard collecting rust. Considering pulling it into the garage and turning wrenches on it and weighing my options. The original 22R and W56 are setting in the bed. 22R is likely locked up as it hasnt had the head on it for a few years.

Anyways, if I build the truck, It would be a daily driver. So dependability and gas mileage are most important. I'd be going for a jdm/drift type look, its already dropped and has a very nice stance as is. A more performance oriented engine would be nice, but not a must. Im not interested in making a race car or making it unnecessarily fast. I do want it to have enough power to easily and efficiently get up to speed and easily pass on the highway when needed. Basically enough power to make it feel like a sports car and be enjoyable to drive more or less.

Im thinking a V6 or high performance 4 cylinder? I want fuel injected for the modern luxury and dependability. As close to "bolt in" as possible. I am a welder and can do fab work but not interested in cutting on the truck to make room for something too big for it. So the simpler the better. Would like to use the w56 to make life a bit simpler if possible, but not a must.

Anyways, what are some good swaps you guys would suggest for my needs? Really only interested in Toyota engines, but have toyed with the idea of a Honda if it would be an easier/cheaper swap.
