81 Stereo suggestions
Ok, my stock stereo is down to its last hours. It makes so much static is hard to listen to. The FM no longer works and talk radio is a bore. My 81 also has the stock cassette player right above it that has not worked for years. Can anyone suggest a nice cd player that would fit nicely in either the cassette spot above or the AM/FM stereo below? I would like something that I would not have to tare the besel up. Any brand and model number suggestions would be highly appreciated.

finding one with a CD player to fit in the small radio location seems like it would be impossible, saw this one awhile ago:
Found this link for it: http://www.retrosoundusa.com/
seems to have some pretty cool features in it...
has an MP3 jack, USB cable...
the new retrosound model one showed up! So I got into mounting the thing. The fit is slick as assembly lube and I'm stoked. It took some customizing of the brackets but nothing big. A dremel took care of it no prob. Might not be the prettiest install behind the panel but is fully a functional solid fit. More to come as I get it wired up. I'll let y'all now how it sounds.

I have a Retrosound Model 1 and it's a nice unit. No cutting involved, good sound, modern features. I routed the USB cable and aux input into my ash tray where I hide my MP3 player and jump drive.
Bought mine from Crutchfield.

Not to hijack this tread. Is there anyone that makes a piece of metal to replace the plastic. I wanna put some switchs and cut my own stereo hole. and dont need a ashtray or hole above the cd player.? so anyone see a thread of someone that builds those? the pastic is on its last legs.

Actually I'm restoring an 83' myself.... I was lucky enough to find a new bezel from the dealer (cost me fortune) but it was worth it...At Kragen auto supply I found a old school tape deck that fits the stock location...it's made by "dual" and it's $40. Looks stock and clean, the best part is it has a Aux output for Ipods and other devices..if you would like a pick let me know, good luck...
