On my 80 4x4 which is new to me, the previous owner just put a new r22 and clutch in.. clutch works fine. But I see the slave is leaking (its new) and its adjusted all the way out to the last thread. I have about 2 inches of free play on the pedal as it is.
Is there a different slave with a longer throw or might I have the wrong clutch fork? I am getting ready to put in a rebuilt L-52 tranny and want to have all of the correct stuff for the clutch before I do it. l

If I had a 22R and L52 trans, I'd want to the clutch fork that came with them. Not sure if it changed from the 20R and L43 or whatever or not, but it may very well have. Search is your friend, I'll bet this question has been covered.

Get a manual and make sure the pedal and master cylinder are adjusted correctly, too. If that all checks out, you could have the wrong clutch fork, throwout bearing, maybe the clutch fork is bent, etc.

 

I cant believe there would be any difference on clutch fork. the slave, fork and throwout bearings all work the same regardless of which tranny is bolted up behind them

You can believe or not believe whatever you want. You asked in your first post if you might have the wrong fork.
Clutch forks changed through the years. Pretty much any hyrdaulic clutch/tranny/engine works the same from one brand vehicle to another. Why don't you try using a Ford clutch fork and see how it does?

A 20R engine with a L43 tranny behind it may well use a different fork, throwout and pilot bearing than a 22R with an L52 behind it. And if you're mixing and matching, there is a method. I can't remember if you pick the throwout bearing/clutch fork etc. to match the engine, or the tranny, but in some applications it does matter.

 

from what I understand u use the clutch, p plate and pilot bearing that is matched to the engine. and match the throwout bearing and fork to the tranny and all should be well

 

I keep trying to find the thread on Marlin where someone is asking what shift fork etc. to use when matching a 20R to a new tranny(I think), and Marlin answers him. Slightly different than this question, but along the same lines. Marlin site seems to be down though.

Hopefully you're right, that seems like it would make sense.

 

I talked to the guys at marlin and the told me every thing I need. I forgot the bell housings are different.. If I use their tranny it come with every thing buy a clutch and shifter and they have those also. Plus I got my current clutch all bled and adjusted. work good
