80 4x4 tough getting into gear

I have a 1980 4wd truck. The clutch slave cylinder was leaking so I replaced it. That system is working well now (confirmed by laying on back watching the lever pull). My problem is that it's really tough to get into gear. It feels almost like the clutch isn't pushed in far enough (even though I know it is).

Would a worn shifter bushing make it hard to get into gear?
Topped off the trans (and diffs) with 90wt the other day and that didn't seem to make any difference.

Is it hard to get in gear just with the engine running? Or with it off also? Shifter bushings are pretty cheap and easy to replace, it wouldn't hurt if it's still on the original one

tough shifting

my little 80 is a pain to get into gear. Sometimes worse than others. Clutch slave is new and I've confirmed that the clutch is going through it's full motion (because it almost feels like the clutch isn't being pushed down quite far enough).

Would a worn bushing cause this? If not are there other things I could do to help? Or is this just a sign of a trans getting older (I kinda have to hold it it reverse if I put any type of load on the trans).

Or is this just a sign that my desired 5 speed swap is going to need to happen sooner than i expected.

It's easier to go through the gears with the truck turned off. Not great, but easier.

Note: third gear has always been a little bit of a strange spot. You don't go all the way to the right with the shifter before you put it in third. Only about 3/4 of the way over and then up.

Did you replace the clutch master also? Or try re bleeding the system.

Actually got that backwards. I replaced the master and not the slave. And yeah I did bleed the system after replacing the master.
I 'll have to take a look at the slave cylinder too.

Please do not create multiple threads asking the same question - it creates confusion and clutters up search results with redundant information. I merged the two threads together and placed it here in the Pre-84 Tech section where it belongs.
