79 toyota dash help

Well let me start off by saying that i do not own a 4wd toyota truck. I do however have a 2wd and since my curiosity has led me knowhere on minitruckin(useless site filled with people who can't manage to reply) i figured i would ask around here. When i got the truck i realized the dash was in bad shape and i don't blame it since it was built in 79. I would try and find a replacement in good shape but with the way the dash was set up from the factory isn't very workable for what i want. The stock am/fm radio is smaller than aftermarket cd players and i don't want to sacrifice my air vents to do that either. So now to my real question. Is there any other newer model dashes that would be able to be swapped in seeing how i think fiberglass and completely custom interiors aren't my speed. I want a factory looking dash and eventually want the interior of my truck to just look nice and clean. I figure the cabs are exactly the same even though there are a vast number of differences between the 4wd and 2wd models. Please don't hate on me for owning a non 4wd pickup it just wasn't in the budget at the time and as well i am tryin to pick up a 2001 tacoma 4wd for my daily driver and then i can gut the truck i have now and start making a cool little street truck as well! Thank you for any knowledge you may be able to provide!

According to this thread:
http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=87025.0

A 2nd generation pickup (84-88) dash can be fitted into a 1st gen (79-83)

I don't think 4wd or 2wd would really matter.

Haha i also am not planning on doing something off the wall like bags and 20's!! Haha just couldn't find any info and a lot of you guys know toyotas so i gotta go where the info is right?

Haha I haven't seen any animosity towards 2wd's here.

In fact, theres a whole section dedicated towards them:

Sorry I can't be much help on the dash issue.

No man you have been great help actually!!! At least those threads gave me am idea that i indeed can put a different dash in that may have more options for what i want! I very much dislike not having any tunes while i'm driving. I have to singto myself in the truck and trust me that's not a pretty sound lol

We love both flavors of trucks here. I am trying to talk my wife into a 2wd truck to save on gas..

Yeah hahaha i really like the body style esp the front ends of the 2wd. I found a place that does full stage 1 to 2.5 rebuilds on the 22r and re's i want something with a little get up and go just to toy around with in town during the summer as a nice ride!!! My future plan is drop it a few inches raked in the front all new paint and body work with some all black(nothing fancy but nice) wheels. I figured it a better viable option than building up a new high performance subaru or something
