79 20R Exhaust to manifold gasket(?) and release fork clip Q:

Hi - 2 Qs:

1) Am I seeking an "exhaust to manifold" gasket? here? (See 2d set of 2 pics) and
2) did I place these release fork pins correctly? see first 2 pics
Thanks in advance

Thanks in advance -

wow you must have spent a few days cleaning that bellhousing

I checked an old thread i had and looking at a picture of an L-43 clutch fork I am pretty sure you have the throw out bearing retaining clips in correct

Can't help you on the gasket but from what I remember you should be able to use a 22r gasket too

Re:

not a labor of love...

I spent a week cleaning that damn transmission. (-*. Gunk followed by pressure washing had little effect, scrapers and mineral spirits did the trick. Thanks regarding the pins. They look right and fork moves fine with them. That exhaust to manifold gasket inset appears to be 2.5” OD and 2. ID. Thanks for the 22re tip

It should be the same as my '78 w/20R engine, if you have the stock pipes*. It took me a LOT of trial & error to find the ones that fit correctly, as most parts listings are vague on location & fitment. I used the following:

FELPRO 23591 - Ring Gasket - 1 & 31/32" Inside Diameter x 2 & 35/64" Outside Diameter
Make sure you get this one specifically; there is another part number listed (23561) that is NOT correct for manifold to pipe. The ID on that one is 1 & 49/64" & OD 2 & 17/64", & does NOT fit; it's too "sloppy" for a good sea from manifold to pipe. I used the 23591 & it sealed up perfectly. The 23561 is intended to be used at main pipe (down pipe) to intermediate pipe flange.
*As always, measure your round flange on the downpipe to be sure of what you have. Previous owners or shops may have substituted later model pipes on the truck.

WALKER 31383 - Triangular Gasket for flange. This is a metal gasket & I recommend it over a composite gasket.

BTW, torque spec on the manifold flange studs/nuts is 33-36 foot pounds.
