Question Why Toyota Clutch Release Fork Boot has a "Hole"

Why on earth would toyota install/make a release clutch fork boot with a hole in it???

Dirt, Mud, rocks, water, just about anything could fly into it and ruin your clutch...Right?

Is yours like this? Is that why I need a new TO bearing? Is that why it's all rusty/dirty inside?

Is it a breather thing or some cooling function?
Any thoughts, suggestions???

I have a 3.0L 90' 4runner and im not sure of the boot off the top of my head. But it is kinda burnt because of a fire i had, so i had to pick up a new boot, that looks just like the one you pictured.

I too wondered that same question!

On my 92 the boot does not have vent, but there is a boot/vent on the top of the bell housing. Maybe they changed their minds?

Lightbulb Crazy huh!

You would think that this is not good. I'm not a huge off-roader (wish i was) BUT, if in deep water and mud you would think it would f-up your clutch.

I think I may install a filter to end. Keep all that stuff out. Extending the life of my clutch. Prototype should hit shelves by Christmas. Stay tuned for pictures...

Think it's bad to plug it up? Is there a function to this hole? Breather/vent?

Thanks...

I was just trying to regrease a squeak in the clutch fork the other dy. What I noticed is how much cleaner my fork arm was on the outside compared to inside the housing. I wonder if the dust build up is from the clutch wear.

Keep in mind most DD drivers will never see mud or that much dirt! Due to the location on the vehicle that area stays relativly clean also. If going through mud your gonna want one but its not the end of the world if your missing it. Mud and gunk will get in there regardless!

Just dont get stuck and continue forward!

Nothing to worry about!

Hey guys. I'm looking everywhere for a clutch fork boot and can't find one. Got a hint or part number? Mine is all warped from a leaky slave cylinder. Thanks.

i know this just got ressurected, but if they think thats bad, i guess the 3 nickel sized holes in my bellhousing from a dead throwout bearing busting my clutch fins and them flying through it cant be good at all... OH WELL LOL
