Not really, it's hard to make a statement like that unless you have owned both and compared the build quality of both. Hella spends big bucks on engineering for the best light output. While the knockoff companies just try and copy. Also if you take out the cost of the h4 bulb that comes pre-loaded in the hella units you are only looking at $40 a side shipped. Don't let your pocketbook cheat you out of better quality and performance for a few dollars more. When were the autopals released? I bet 10 years from now their will be more hella conversions still running while the autopals are swapped out because of longevity issues.

 

I helped a friend install Hellas in his Yota and I can say from personal experience, the Autopals match in light output with the same bulbs. The only visible difference is the thickness of the glass and a very small difference in fluting.

I'm not saying that Autopals are superior to Hellas, but if you want to argue Autopal's proven reputation, go for it.

 

It's all speculation until someone does a side by side light measurement test, because even autopals are better than stock.

 

I have the Hella e codes. The bulbs they come with Suck. If I wouldn't have got the hella's for free I would have bought the Autopal lights. They are a lot cheaper than the hella's. If you break a Hella light your out about 50 bux for one new one. Break a Autopal buy a new set for cheaper than one Hella.

I have a pair of Hellas that I've had in three other vehicles (same lights) and I love them. I now have 35/100 watt bulbs in them and they put out so much more light than I expected. I have had no complaints.
I always try to buy the best I can afford, and am rarely disappointed. If the cheaper bulbs work for you great.

I've seen good things said about the Roundeyes Rectangular Conversion Headlapmps, Polycarbonate lens (tough plastic like many new cars) and bulbs included, for $109/pair

Also good things said about , glass lens, NOT made in China, bulbs not included, $38 a pair.

Does anybody have first-hand experience that would justify buying the Roundeyes that cost almost twice the price of Autopals? Please no hearsay or philosophical cliches like "you get what you pay for"- only actual experience. Did one break too early? Was it not bright enough? Did you actually compare two side by side?

i ended up getting the upgrade bulbs,white 100/90s and they work really well concidering the price.im running the autopals with a relay off my high beams to my 100w autopal off road lights,talk about lighting up the road!!works awesome...

This is about replacing sealed beam headlamps with conversion housings, not adding driving lights.

 

I know. Some guys are installing driving lights to replace their headlights.

 

I just received an order of these:

To replace my crap sealed beams (couldn't even read with the light from my passenger side one...)

Have not installed them but will soon and will post photos in the "what did you do to your rig today" section.

I looked into the Auto Pal ones too (they received good reviews from folks on this forum and others) but decided to go with Hella because I feel it's a solid brand and I could afford it. I hear the bulbs aren't that great but I can always upgrade those cheaply.

I have some Hella LED driving lamps on my Christmas list this year so it could be a great January

I don't want to be that guy on the road with the annoying blue headlights - anyone with H4 housings have recommendations on the best H4 bulbs and what K rating to use?

Seems like it's a standalone HID with projector set up but in the form of a single H4 bulb? If so, how does that work in the housings we're discussing, which have a light dissipator that doesn't allow the bulb to shine straight out of the housing? I guess I'm just not understanding it - I want maximum (legal and non annoying) output and illumination with my Hella housings I just bought.

Thanks G, but these appear to be higher wattage than what I got with the housings - and are "off road only use":

Hella halogen bulb part # H83140011 is an H4 12V 130/90W off-road only headlight bulb designed to work with both high and low beam lights. This bulb has a 40 hour average life and produces a cooler, whiter light. They provide increased visibility and less eye fatigue for drivers.

What's the "40 hour average life"? That sounds pretty darn short if it means what I think it means??
