63"s and ruf

how difficult is it to do the RUF lift and keep the axle in the stock location? I want to keep the axle in the stock location. I may eventually convert to high steer, but im planning to build a 4 or 5" lift with this and use a skyjacker adjustable drag link and steering stabilizer to start with. The truck is mainly a DD with the occassional offraod use; that being said, when I do go offroading I really beat it up. I go a few times a year. oh and I have a 1985 toyota pickup
to do it, you need to take the RUF springs in to a spring shop and have them punch new center holes in the first 2 leaves (the main leaf and the wrap leaf). factory front springs have the center hole 22.5" back, so i had mine punched at 21 3/4" i think (might be a good idea to measure that for yourself, its been a few years) you can try drilling the center holes yourself but it is very hard, if not impossible. then build your leaf packs from there, i used a couple leaves from a cherokee in addition to the toyota leaves. then you will need to either modify or remove the torque rod since it will no longer fit, and you'll need to buy one of these:

to make your driveshaft reach.
i ran that setup for over a year of hard abuse, worked great but it is far from being the "right way" to do it. looking back it would have been cheaper and less work to just do the job right the first time, with high-steer and everything.

I thought I read somewhere that the 1st gen rear leaf springs measured different from the 84 on rear springs and that they wouldn't move the axle as far foward? Thats my plans using my 2wd rears combined with 84 4runner rears to make my front pack. Any info on the 1st gen packs?

question about driveshaft
Bringing back an old thread here for a relevant drive shaft question.Anyone know any options for front D/S that is street friendly for a longer than stock travel RUF?I am in process of buying a 85 4runner that has been unmolested and still stock. The whole reason I am buying is I want something I will still be able to drive on road.I just did a SAS on an 89, which turned out totally bad a%# for rock crawling, put the long travel shaft from trail gear on it, but didn’t have room for the CV end and had to go to single ujoint on both ends. Now it is a pretty rough ride over 35 mph on the road in 4wd because I cant get the proper DS angle without throwing caster out of alignment. Was very disappointing, not my DD but take on all kinds of trips and def used to have fun driving around in whenothers got snowed in in STL.So, with spare parts I still have from the other 4runner…….was thinking I could put the OME rear leafs on rear, RUF, level out with shackles, would def install crossover steer, and hope I could just either get and extension from RB or lengthen DS, but be able to keep the CV so I would stay road friendly.Sorry for long post but PLEASE OFFER ANY IDEAS!!!ThanksJ
