1st gen brakes and steering problem.

I'm currently doing some major mods to my 83 pick-up. I'm going to half ton axles and need to upgrade my brakes. So i was going to Switch to a dual diaphram brake booster out of a 90 an newer v6 toyota 4 runner, My issue is my steering u joint coming out of the firewall hits it bad. I was wondering how difficult it would be to swap out a 86 or later steering column that had the one piece shaft? Would the wiring bolt right up or would i have to rewire?
Thanks for the advice.
