The 1st gen (79-83) trucks all had tilt as a SR5 option. It may have been available on the deluxe versions too. Pretty uncommon for the 79 to have them as original pieces.
The 1979 Limited editions came with all the "Sport" options and a black package interior. The chrome package didn't include chrome rims, but rather the hub caps.

i know this might be a thread hijack but i gotta find some stuff out and it sounds like a good many of you in this thread know about limited edition toyotas. ive got an 85 4runner GranVille (out of elkheart ind. or so the badge says) fully loaded with ac and cruise. built in cb radio integrated with the fm radio antenna. dlx rear seat. crush velvet red interior and different wheels. i got some info from one guy on this site saying it was sold as a tow behind for some of the toyota rvs. but i could never confirm this. either way its something that i think is very unique and would like to know some info on! thanks!

Thanks trekkerpaul for the phone conversation. We have to find all the limited editions out there. A list is awesome. I will do some digging and see what I can find. Thanks again

FYI, I was on eBay about a year ago and #1 of 1089 is still alive! It was for sale in California. It's red with the roll bar in the bed and not all hacked up. Rusted out here and there, but wasn't too far gone that it couldn't be resurrected. I would have loved to buy it, but I just couldn't afford to buy it and then get it back here to the east coast. I don't recall how much it went for though.

Thought I'd share this in here, someone posted a window sticker for what appears to be one of these trucks in a different thread. The vin is only 18 off of mine, and the optioning was identical:

Here's an early vin window sticker. I bought this truck off of a guy a few years back, but it was in REALLY bad shape so I decided to part it out. The frame was one of the worst I had ever seen in all my years dealing with early toys smack dab in the rust belt.
The guy I got it from was the original owner. He said he had been thinking about getting a chevy luv, but read about these in 4Wheeler and was impressed by the writeup. He went to the dealership and decided to put a downpayment on one of the fist 1000 4x4's to be imported. He told me he specifically expressed to the salesman that the price they agreed on would remain the same, but that changed once it arrived on the lot. He jacked it up another $1000 since they were flying off the lot. He obviously still bought it, but was still pissed enought to tell me the story almost thirty years later.
Anyway, I thought you guys would appreciate the window sticker. It was an SR5 with all the available bells and whistles. Gotta love the price of fuel in 79 at .70 cents a gallon. If only..............!!!

And another good thread going on Pirate (which some of you already found):
http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/toyot...edition-8.html
My plaque is riveted to the side of the truck. I'd be willing to bet that the dealer that got the truck did that after the fact, there is a big hole cut in the "B" pillar beneath the vinyl applique inside to allow them to get to the back of the badge location.

For a reference point my 1979 short bed 4x4 is totally original, I even have one original tire. The truck only has 37,000 miles on it, but it is rotted way beyond repair. If you need any pictures of how things should look under the hood, etc let me know. My grand plan is to find a rust free cab/bed/frame to basically swap my truck over.

I found another for sale
Look carefully under the fender badges and you will see where the "limited Edition" emblems used to be. Plus it has chrome in all the right places and is the correct terracotta color.

436 gears with 36" swampers AND a 20R? that thing has to be absolutely gutless! DX
head needs to give me that bed though... it would do nicely on my pickemup.

1979 Toyota 4x4 odometer: 103000 manual transmission
This is a limited edition 1979 Toyota 4x4 truck. Tilt steering, power steering, power brakes, cruise control. The inside still looks great. No cracks in the dash. Two small tears in the seat. Headliner and carpet are in great shape. I'm the 3rd owner. Body is in excellent condition. Has small rust spot on driver fender. This is a VERY RARE truck. I do not want to trade and I will not take much less than I'm asking. I mean a couple hundred less. No low ballers. Truck has 103k original miles. Has 20R motor and 4 speed transmission. You can drive this truck anywhere. Call or text (501)317-7464 thank
