I finished the preliminary research on your truck. VIN # and data plate says it is a: 4x4 Deluxe Trim model, shortbed truck with a 4 speed floor mounted trans, 8" ring gears, 4.375 gear ratio with no limited slip, painted Red, Tan interior and destinaion USA. Still checking in what plant it was produced at and some other data.
According to my sources at Toyota Japan, the only factory packages or Limited Editions produced and designated by the factory as such were the Black / Chrome package 1979-1983, the 1983 Mojave Limited Edition 2 Wheel drive trucks (about 500) and the 1983 Mojave Limited Edition 4x4 trucks (25 in US and Canada) The Mojave Limited Edition (2 and 4 wheel drive) packages were SR5 models and had all available options standard, moon roof, a/C, power steering, Digital AM / FM radios, etc. plus unique items unavailable on any other models. All other Limited Editions were done by Toyota USA Sales Regions and the factory has no information on these vehicles (# built, options, special features, etc.). This does not say your truck is not unique or rare but the information would have to come from the Toyota USA sales region from which it was purchased to find out how many were produced and what options were included with the package. (Example: Ivan Stewart Package-West Coasr Sales Regions only). I will continue my research.

The 1983 Mojave Limited Edition 4x4 models were special order vehicles only available to Toyota dealership owners, people like Ivan Stewart, Jim Sickles (personal friends) and others. They were all SR5 Black / Chrome package trucks equipped with all options including the digital radio and tape units. The interiors were black single color, monogramed seats, plush carpet, map pockets on both doors, non-wood dash facias, chromed transmission and transfer case shifters, dual chrome mirrors, no name single pull tailgates, chromed tail light housings, chromed rear oval tube bumpers, no bed hooks, chromed front bumpers without rubber ends, and special alloy wheels. I am the original owner of my truck (27 years)and the owner of Englander Toyota (personal friend) in Orlando, Florida ordered it for me. There were 25 trucks, all totally built in Japan (no US made beds), and distributed in the US and Canada.

I just love cars and trucks. I started building my first car when I was 11 with the help of friends and neighbors. It was a 1940 Ford coupe and I drove it in high school. Here are some of my other Toys and I have the research history on these complete. 1932 Ford 3w Coupe built by Coddington and 1950 Mercury Coupe built by Barris.

Grand National
Suncomb, was your '32 in the Grand National Roadster Show in Oakland in the mid-90's sometime? I seem to remember a Boyd Coddington built red '32 coupe entered into that show a few years after he built the "Boydster", I guess that would make it around '95 or '96?

No, it was not my 32 in the show. I purchased the car in 1990 from Dan Durock a Mobil Oil Distributor in Arizona. The 32 was featured in a number of magazines in the late 80's thru early 90's. The Mercury has been featured in 25 magazines, calenders and 6 movies over its life. It is the only Barris built Mercury with front and rear rolled pans, all the others built by Barris had bumpers. The car was finished in 1959 at the Barris Shop.

I looked at the photos and I don't think that is a Mojave Limited Edition 4x4 truck. I would have to see the interior, tailgate, tail lights, Vin data plate, etc. All Mojave Limited Editions produced, whether 2 wheel or 4 wheel drive, had no name tailgates, no bed hooks, chromed bumpers, grill, headlights, mirrors, etc. were SR5 models, etc.

it looks like the bed is "home cooked" if you know what i mean, it doesnt look like its stock toyota at all, im guessing its home made, i emailed him asking for pictures of the interior, ill post them up if he sends them. Since you seem to be the "Mojave Master" ill let you decide if its real or fake.
