No such new wire welder for under $300.
You want at least a 175 or 180 for what you say you are going to use it for and those run $750+new or so plus gas and supplies.
A cheap $$$ welder is usually just that.
I have a 135 for small stuff and a 251 for anything else.
Buy the biggest welder you can afford the first time and be done with it as it will pay for itself 10 fold if you use it as you say you are.

You can probably get a decent stick welder for around that price, if not new, try a used one. I started with a used 230amp AC/DC arc welder that cost me about $200 with a boat load of accessories. Still have it but did end up getting a MIG.

Home depot or lowes sell a lincoln ac-225 stick welder for 269.99 NEW. Or if you get lucky someone will return one after using it once or twice(happens quite often acctually) and they knock 100 bucks off. I got one a couple months ago and they person didnt even use it once and I paid 180 OTD with all the accessories it comes with new. I also see them all day long on craigslist for under 150. You can find some lincoln mig welders used for 300 bucks sometimes on craigslist also.
