I really ought to get a T-shirt at least from Aussie Lockers...

Anyone tried the V6 4 pinion Aussie yet?

Just figured i'd update this, since it is such an amazing review.

I'm thinking about doing front and rear aussie lockers... the only thing im afraid of is that this is my daily driver. I do 75% freeway, 20% city and 5% off road. I have a 92 4runner 5 speed v6. I practically read this entire thread and matt16 mentioned they just came out with the v6 locker? has anyone tried it? any helpful advice would be amazing. the reason im considering lockers is because im getting 33x10.50s, so im going to regear to 4.88s. figured i'd kill two birds with one stone

^ the only question I'd ask is whether you see snow on the roads in the winter where you live at all. The rear locker is manageable, the front one I don't know, but I'd be hesitant. The recession may have something to do with no one seemingly having tried the V6 locker.

I still love my front Aussie even though it was installed wrong the 1st time. Apparently I have been running around with a legitimate spool in the front. Thanks to BlueyFab I was able to get the locker properly functional and 4.88's installed. I run a LSD in the rear with no complaints. I will have to relearn the driving with the front locker .

I live in the sacramento/roseville area. If it snows here, its a very rare occasion. I've lived here for 19 years and its snowed here twice. Once in 6th grade and once about 4-5 months ago. each time was less than 1" of snow. someone wanna explain to me why a rear locker would be bad in the snow? worst case scenario would be the aussie locks, grabs traction and launches me somewhere? lol

tends to push out in a turn if you aren't used to it.

I had one in my '84 when stationed in Alaska, took a little while to get used to it but it was great, another one in my '81--will always have one

If both back tires are spinning, the rear has no lateral (side-to-side) traction. This makes it really easy to do donuts, but when you're in the snow in 2wd, a little too much gas and you're liable to spin the truck. Put it in 4wd and this tendency goes away.

Hey guys, just got my aussie locker installed in the rear of my 97 4runner 3.4 the other day. I think I am one of the first ones to do this. So far, above 10 mph it is great, I dont even know its there. But going slow and turning, such as turning in a parking lot, driveway, etc. I'm not gonna lie, I have a feeling its gonna start eating tires pretty quick. Just an easy 90 degree turn in a parking lot is pretty bad, I cringe every time I hear that tire skidding on the pavement. I really hope it will break in and not grab on turns like you guys say it will. I guess I'll just wait and see

I should have a V6 Aussie put in when I swap the 4.56s from my parts truck over. It might be a while yet but hopefully I remember to give an update after that.

I didn't find that much difference between brand new and "broken in" after a couple months. The biggest change was driver input. You've got to slip the clutch a little more in parking lots, instead of idling into a parking spot with the clutch engaged. Another thing that made a big difference is the gear oil. The best gear oil for these lockers, as far as I could tell, was cheap thick gear oil. I used 85w140 mineral oil, which is about as thick as you can buy. That seemed to help it keep quiet and smooth. Synthetic oil made it grabby and loud.

After reading this and many other reviews I ordered an aussie locker for the 30 spline 4cyl turbo/V6 4runner. Just put in the order and may have to wait a couple weeks to put it in, 4th coming up and gotta wait for my differential/gear setting buddy to be free. I'll try to take some install pics, then will review the locker.

Great review, It made up my mind on buying an Aussie and also helped with install. It wheels amazing, I Put an Aussie up front in my 85' and the steering inst that bad, but i do have power steering.

but as for the locker, It locks when you need it locked and Unlocks when you don't! I have to roll down my window and keep my Rpm low to hear the ratcheting, and for 220 bucks I can wheel just as good as my buddy with $500 E locker.
