I called the Prescott National Forest office earlier this week to see what'z up w/ the FS portion of the trail. The damage is so severe around CK, the FS has closed the road (FS 52) to Horse Thief Basin. The ranger commented that while it is "open", he believed only a few 4x4 quads had been able to make it all the way thru from Lake Pleasent...

late December before all the heavy rains my friends bone stock 89 4runner on 30" ATs made the entire trail with no damage from Pleasant to Crown King...my 94 4runner with slight lift and 32s made it easily...however in late January we attempted Crown King again and it was unpassable, especially the 'rock hill' section and I was in my 86 too. Extremely muddy and slick...made it about halfway up and no way my friends stock 4runner was going to make it anyway so we turned around
I've heard there's 5'+ washouts near some of the creek crossings...
Crown King is fun in a stock Toyota, its just enough of a challenge to make it tough but without fear of damage if driven correctly..this was before all the rains...

Hey Mark here is a couple of pichures from 12/31/04. After the rock ledge at the mine.

Made it up with out problem. Even had a stock 03 taco with me and he also made it without any body damage.

Greg,

There were a couple reports that a few weeks after you went thru that the creek crossing at the Oro Belle has been cut 10 to 15' deep. They also mentioned that the first section of the trail in the foothills above LP had sustained major damage. Guess I'm just gonna have to go see myself, but that won't be doable for a few weekends. Prolly won't be free until April...
