how to get stuck in Texas!

On Sunday MArch 20, I met up with BigKen, Now you have to understand, Ken looks a little funny without a Harley! .. All kidding aside we had a great time. 30 minutes into it I found a small water hole, unfortunatley it did not have a bottom and after my 1st gen took a rather liberal gulp into the intake, she passed out!. Ken to the Rescue... with about all the axle popping and crackling I could bare, Ken muscled my sleeping truck to shore! We pulled the plugs and water filter, I mean air filter and realized that she need to dry out a little, So I through (dropped) a spark plug in the mud, were it disapeered, so Ken went into town and brought back replacements! When Ken returned we put the new plugs and filter in , she started right up! so I decide to go around the hole in the "Dry Stuff" WRONG! I broke throught the crust into THE PIT OF DOOM... when the right rear tire came off the ground, I got a little concerned and I just got tired of climbing out of the pasengers door! As mighty as Ken is he couldn't budge me. I was stuck! A lifted XJ with lockers came over, gave a mighty tug and BLAMO!!! he busted a front axle shaft! so he limped away....dragging his tail.... we cornered a new wrangler on street tires and with him, Ken and a side by side pull we freed the truck. Indeed the pucker facter was high. I'm still looking for the drivers seat cover !! The rest of the after noon we avoided the danger zone and played around with no further stucks. we did watch jeeps repeatedly dive in and not resurface, like a bunch of lemmings!!! I even got to help pull one out!! and check out the size of the mesquite thorn, they were abundant!

Any way it was great fun, great mud!

carnage:
my truck fan clutch, leaky rear main.
Kens ... not a thing! even though I thought he was going to finish off a damaged axle, it held up!

Hang - on, we're comin'...........

Damn - what a day we had..........mud, hills, dust, water, and more mud.... Excellent time. I guess ya git whatcha play for....... Mike, thanks for hookin' up and givin' us a lesson on how 'NOT' to go in head first. I like the followin' idea..... We all learned a lot, this bein' my wife & I's first official outting . We both enjoyed the day. The only time my air filter gets that wet, is when I am washing it out (K&N). I didd't know an airbox would hold that much water.
It was fun yankin' ya out, too. The power of these trucks still blows my mind. Not to mention the impromptu 'field-tune-up.
Phyllis got dang near hysterical when we gotch fired back up, and you then tried to traverse the left side of the swamp we just got ya out of, then ya start sinkin' AGAIN ... Too funny....... I could only get ya part way outta that one. So, you send me after the Cherokee with the lockers, and he was certain he could get ya out, ALL BY HIMSELF.... Then BANG, he broke something fairly important - frony AXLE. I felt bad, and he was just embarrased. He limped away, and we talked the kid with the new Wrangler, complete with paper tag and street tires, to join in on the pull. That did it. - team-yank.
Then, we were a little more conservative the rest of the time. Oh yea, you did lend those Jeep guys a hand yankin' that red Cherokee out of the pond.
Great time was had by all. We are looking forward to more adventures, and learned that we need to bring an extra set of spark plugs for guys that drop theirs in the mud ................
Let's go egt muddy again soon.

Yeah, the mud was fun ONCE!!! Turns out my fan clutch was not bad, the radiator was full of mud! but now my rear shoes are shot!.. speaking of, Ken, take your drums off and clean that crap out! mine were full of mud!. still good times and glad I went, now if I can just get past the wifes " I told you so!" I think my yard came up at least an inch from all the dirt I washed off and the neighbors hate the red trail running down the street!

Love to tear into those brakes and clean 'em up, but heading to St. Louis in the a.m.... Wife will stay here and have the Runner for the week. Think it can wait till I get back?
