Kennebec Pass CO 9.8.07

it seemed everyone i know was out of town last weekend so i went solo to Kennebec Pass in La Plata canyon outside of Durango. its an easy trail with a few fun sections with incredible views. there are not too many action shots because i was alone and i didnt feel like killing the motor every time i was on a fun part and we all know how worthless the e-brakes are. anyway it was an awesome trip and a great reminder of how much more there is to see in my state. bla bla pics.

Nice, looks like a really fun relaxing drive. What is the story behind the keyhole? Looks a bit out of whack (geologist here). Just curious what might have formed it.

thats cool your a geologist....that is my major at fort lewis in Durango. I'm pretty sure it was man-made. you can see a few remaining drill holes for the dynomite. the pass continues down the other side of the mountain to another mine then dead ends.

Awesome shots. Looks like the area has a lot of history to it. I'll have to put it on my short list.

Great pictures! I did that on my mountain bike in July, there is a singletrack to the left of the notch that continues down to the Colorado trail. A very cool ride.

You should also check out Tomahawk basin next time you are in Laplata canyon. I grew up in Durango and used to do alot of 4wheeling up there.
