It was a fun trip and the 4runner ran great! we were tuning the megasquirt most of the way... really a good time to fine tune with all of the long stretches of nothing out in west Texas.

We take it for granted but in many ways "Texas is like a whole other country" South of I-10 toward the Mexican border it is unusually beautiful. And the Ft. Davis area is worth the trip also.

I got to go out to Ft Davis for a fire assignment this year...I wanted to quit and stay for the food! Couldn't wheel much while I was there...being in our fire engine and all, not my 'Runner.

But yeah, it was pretty there, too.

The picture was taken at the old village of Castillon inside of Big Bend Park that was a cool old steam power unit in the backgroud and the cliffs of the upper canyon in the distance.
Castillon was also the site of a brief firefight between raiding mexican army forces and the old 8th infantry in the late 1800's as well as a Ranger station for many years.

I have travelled all over the U.S. and I think the best Mexican Food and Steaks are found in West Texas also the people are friendly... sometimes a little leary of strangers but if you kick off the conversation they will talk your ears off..
