Coffeepot Trail, AZ Dec 12

Last weekend a couple friends and I decided to head out into the mountains of central AZ along an old trail to explore a remote part of the state. After recent storms and some looming dark clouds in the distance we weren't sure what would be in store. The creeks were flowing at full force just days before following some heavy snow and rainfall in the high country.

We followed some old mining routes with some interesting history and saw a well preserved old cabin, mines and had some impressive views along the route. The trail ranged from low desert, crossing many creeks and washes to the mid elevation pines. Steep rocky hills, mud and shelf roads made up the majority of this trail. Not to mention the many trees that blocked the trail along the densely vegetated valley floor under the mesas. We were fortunate the weather cooperated during the day with some brief rain showers, most of the system staying further to the northeast of our location. The blizzard on the ride back atop the rim made for a fitting end to this trip.

Overall it was a great trip that covered some lightly traveled paths through central AZ.

On our way out of town...

The trail was clogged with multiple fallen oak, pinion and juniper trees. Most looked to be as a result of the recent wind storms.

Honestly, I would keep this on the DL. You tell to many people and everyone will go and trash it.

A good point (I removed another detail location), that was definitely considered when I posted and I left out all the details as far as directions go. Could it still be found...yes...however I would like to think that the amount of effort required to get there and the fact that passing through the ranchers land and needing an approval almost of some sorts and the sign in register at the gate would keep out those with bad intentions.

Thanks guys. It's been a long work in progress. Toyospearo...you have a real nice rig too. I have seen the photos of your buildup and flatbed more specifically. Very well done.

Mine is fairly basic, tied into the roll cage and topped off with some diamond plate flooring, high lift jack mount, lots of bracing and some tail lights. I had it built like that to be utilitarian, for all kinds of uses and able to carry gear, camping/sleeping platform and strong enough to take abuse in the rocks as well.
