New Tundra
Hi all I just joined the forum. I used this forum a lot while doing a HG on my brothers 97 T100. He just bought a 2000 Tundra 4.7 Access Cab. I'll be driving it to Alaska this spring so I want to get more familiar with it. I'll be adding stuff to this thread little by little as things come up. I think the truck is about 90% of what I wanted. Not sure how to better describe it. 90% of how I would mod it or something. Anyways this is what it is.
How do I find out what gears it has?
How do I find out if it has LSD?
Did they all have the same transfer case?
Are all 4.7s the same? (Junkyard parts swaps)
As delivered:
Couple questions:
What is the white connector for?
This was under the rear seat. Any idea where it goes?
Fog lights, blank, dimmer, blank. What were the options that went in the blanks?
The PO said he bought this truck because it had no ABS. Was this a factory option? The ABS fuses are gone and as you can see with the key in ON position the ABS light doesnt light. Are any other lights supposed to be lit besides these? Can someone explain the not having ABS thing?
As you can see Im just getting familiar with this thing. Thanks for any help.

Wow nice! Thats an interesting color. I dig it.
Look on the rear axle differential by the fill plug. If there is a vertical rectangular sticker that says "LSD Oil Only" then you have an LSD. Or, if the sticker is not there, jack up the rear axle so both tires are off the ground. Spin one tire. If the other tire spins in the same direction, you have a limited slip. If it goes in the opposite direction, its an open diff.
If it has a limited slip, then you will have 3.90 gears. If it is an open, then 4.10, or possibly 4.30. My 2000 Tundra has an LSD so it has 3.90 gears.
Early 2uz-fes should all be similar enough to swap parts. I believe '00-'04. In '04 or '05+ they added VVT-i, so they are not interchangeable.
All the '00-'03 4.7s had the same 4 spd auto and transfer case. In '04 they introduced the 5spd auto so things changed.
I was not aware that non-ABS was an option on 4wd Tundras. I thought it was only 2wds. Did he possibly take the fuses and the bulb out?
I believe that connector, if not capped off, goes to the ABS actuator on the opposite side of the engine bay. Its a large black box with like 6 or 8 hard brake lines connecting onto it.

Thanks for the info. The connector had what looked like a factory rubber cover on it and I dont recall seeing the actuator on pass side. I suppose this would help
Another question. On the left is that for the AC? And on the right is a trans cooler?

This is under the rear bumper by the hitch. Its coming off a wiring harness going from what I think would be one tail light to the other. Any idea what its for? -Note- The plug is factory and covered in wiring loom. Dont pay attention to the white wires those are for cargo rack lights.
This little hook is beside the spare tire. Any idea what its for? (I dont know why its uploading upside down...)

No ABS Actuator. Its hard to miss.
That hook is a hanger point for the factory exhaust. By the looks of your first few pictures you have some kind of side-exit right in front of the tire?
Im pretty sure that plug is for the factory license plate lighting.

Oh great call with the hanger and license plate lighting. Makes plenty of sense. Yea the exhaust has a flowmaster that sounds super mean and then takes a turn and exits just behind the rear door. The pipes sit below the frame so theyre the lowest point on the whole truck. I might chop em off and just put a down turned tip on it.

I have factory exhaust manifolds and cross-overs. Then where the crossovers connect, I put the factory resonator with 2.5" pipe going straight back, over the axle and dumps just shy of the end of the bed. Its a great sound. A nice low, calm rumble at idle, sounds mean on acceleration, and a bearable rumble at cruising speed.

My truck sat for a few weeks and when I drove it the CEL came on. Got the codes pulled and I got 3 O2 sensors codes. Bank 1 senor 1, bank 1 sensor 2 and bank 2 sensor 2 I think. Anyone have any idea why I would get all 3 at once? Seems like something isnt right if they all came on at once just from sitting for a week or two. If I disconnect the battery will it reset the codes so I can see if they come back?

So I will be taking my dual sport on the trip. Its about 300 pounds and will ride on a hitch carrier. I need to get an add a leaf kit for the trip. They seem pretty straight forward. Just add the leaf in where the spring above it is longer and the spring below it is shorter? Then put the new center bolt thru, put the u bolts back on and call it a day?

another option might be airbags - they are nice because you can adjust them as you add weight to your truck vs being suck with one setting. both are about the same difficulty of installation, with airbags maybe being slightly easier since you don't need to disassemble your leaf pack.
good luck on the trip!

Yea Ive got airbags on an F350 and love them. This truck is basically never gonna tow anything besides this short trip so I didnt want to get the bags. I ordered up the cheapest leafs I could find on eBay. Should be installed by the end of the week. We'll see how it goes.

Hoping someone here is a wiring guru. I put a hitch carrier on and I put some LED brake lights as well as LED turn signals on the hitch carrier. I have it going into the typical 4 prong trailer connector. I'm not getting any power on the truck side trailer connector. The license plate light is gone but I have power at the connector.
This next part may get confusing so I can try to draw a schematic if needed. The kid we got the truck from had some backup lights wired to the reverse lights in the tail lights. All 4 reverse light were powered off a switch in the cab. Theres 2 wires coming from the switch in the cab to the driver side reverse light. Then 2 wires tap into the drivers reverse light to the pass reverse light. Lastly theres 2 wires coming off the driver reverse light going to the aux reverse lights.
I'm wondering how the stock harness was set up. I'd like to go back to having reverse lights when the truck is in R instead of having to hit the switch. I'm also wondering why the trailer harness connector isnt getting power. I'm guessing its because of the reverse light setup. Blinkers, brake lights and running lights all work fine.

I'm going to be changing all my fluids.
Rear Diff- Is it a 24mm fill and drain? 75-90w? How many quarts?
Transfer Case- 24mm fill/drain on the back? What weight/quarts?
Front Diff- 12mm allen fill on front drivers side? Wheres the drain? What weight/quarts?
I have heard mixed reviews on seafoaming Tundras. Is it ok to use thru the PCV hose? Which is here?

What is this whole cluster? Its got an evap line running into it?

Yes, rear diff drain/fill is 24mm. Use LSD oil or additive if yours has a limited slip. I havent ever changed the trans/x-fer case fluid in my Tundra, so I cant comment about the plug or fluid.
The front diff drain is on the driver's side, very bottom, kind of on the side.
first picture: No idea
second picture: fuel EVAP canister

Today I picked up some new tail lights with the wiring harnesses. After a little soldering theyre working just like stock. Also I ran a third brake light which is sweet. I'm still having trouble with the trailer wiring harness. I'm not getting power at wide connector behind the drivers tail light that goes into the "black box". I understand this is a brake/turn signal splitter type of thing? Anyways I'm not getting power at the big connector on there. Havent checked the small plug. Also I looked at the fuses under the steering wheels and by the fuel evap canister and couldnt find a blown fuse. Where in particular is the trailer wiring fuse? Thanks for any help.
