Will 285/75R16 tires fit? 3rd gen 4runner stock?
Somebody has this size for sale and I was wondering how they would fit my 97 4runner. I current have 265/75 r16. I dont really know how the sizes work. I dont really want them if they're going to rub alot. Thanks for any advice Ray

If you want to go with a larger tire you could always look at 255/85r16. Click here to see what Expeditions West did.
But seriously, there is a ton of information on this forum regarding tire size and amount of lift required. Do a quick search and you will find more information and opinions than you can shake a stick at.

As far as I know, you'll be okay with 265/75's on a '97. 00-on 4runners sat slightly lower, so may have more rubbing issues. Just to be safe though, check out the actual measurements of any tires you're looking at - they vary widely, even within a "size"

I have 285 BFG AT's, I started out with a 2.5" Daystar spacer lift and very little trimming. The very inside of the running board needed to be cut about a half inch, which was easily done with a razor knife. I now have the Tundra/OME lift and I've got good clearence. So you will need at least a 2.5" inch lift to make them clear any SERIOUS rubbing issues.

to OP: hey fellow pomona person!
the 285/75r16's will fit on your stock 6 spoke wheels, but they will rub the UCA's in front, thats why i had to buy new wheels with a different back spacing.
i wish i had stuck with the 265/75r16.

i ran 16x7 wheels and 265/75/16 mtrs on my 4runner without running boards, however i rubbed at full lock going over a small bump, id get a one inch lift or body lift.
