serpentine belt

i did a search, and dint find anyone with this question...

my serpentine belt is squealing when i first start the engine, doesn't always happen, but when it does its pretty annoying. it goes away after about 10 minutes of run time.

should i replace it or can it just stay on there for a while longer? i dont see any tears in it, and it doesnt appear to be all that worn out. isn't there a fluid i can spray on there to make it stop?

thanks

Sounds like it may be lose. Check the tension on the belt, it may just need to be adjusted.

The anti-squeak stuff is temporary, usually only lasts 1-2 days.

I had a car once that did this sometimes, a Dodge sedan. I tried tightening the belt but still it would start doing it again. I don't think it hurt the belt since it would stop after a short while.

first off, its not a serp belt, its a v-belt =) morning sqeaks happen all the time, usually the belt has stretched or the surface is glazed. Spray with silicone spray, belt dressing, etc on one part of the belt while the engine is running. If the sqeaks stops, you need a new belt. If not, its a tensioner issue or another belt. Hit them all with the spray, just dont use too much. For what its worth, i have never seen a 3.4 with a bad tensioner.

check the groves in the pulleys for junk if the belt is old or was loose at one time you may have rubber build up in the grove causing your problem

Mine does the exact same thing after it rains. I have had it tightened..didn't work and the lube is only temp. I am still under warranty so maybe the stealer will replace it.
