help asap...factory alarm problem

Tonight I had planned on replacing the aftermarket radio in my 96 4runner (the factory one was messed up when I bought it and the dealership put a crappie in to replace it). I had diconnected the negative battery terminal and let it discharge before doing anything. Well when I reconnect it the damn battery the factory alarm system goes off. Is there a lockout out feature on the alarm or is something is ˟˟˟˟ up. What do I do. HELP!!
I don't have a remote to go with this it never came with the car.

Maybe you can disconnect the alarm module under the drivers seat?

i had this same problem with my '00 taco (the horn honking) but I at least had a remote. the remote didnt do anything until I pressed the "hood closed" button and closed all doors and it would finally turn off. if closing the hood stops it, see if you can start the truck. if not, you may have to look for an alarm module, but i never found one...

if it does it when you shut the hood with no other problems, must have a hood pin or mercury switch... disable it?

The problem got fixed with the help of someone over on the ttora board. Apparently, there was a switch that I didn't know of (kind of hidden) and by turn the ignition key off and on and flipping the switch back and forth fixed the problem. Go fiqure you learn something new everyday.

Went through the same thing a few weeks ago. My keys (and last remote) got stolen. So, I just unplugged the horn fuse and started trying everything. Finally got it to turn off.

Wormhole, can you tell me where that switch was, and how exactly to turn the alarm off? I'm having this same problem with trying to reconnect the battery cable.

I ended up talking to a guy on ttora. The switch on mine was located on the lower left hand side kick panel.
He had me flip the switch back and forth while turning the ignition key a couple of times until it turned off.

All you have to do is put the key in the ignition and turn it on and off twice and the alarm will go off

Hmm, I can't find this switch. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place, what exactly is the kick panel?

Turning the ignition on and off twice didn't work- it stopped the noise for a bit, but then it started again, and the truck won't start either.

Figured it out- turns out that unlocking the driver's side door with the key (or just turning the key in the lock) disarms the alarm and allowed me to start it again. Phew!

if turning the key 2x in the ignition did nothing its not a yota factory alarm, thats the way to shut them off period. Anything with switches, kick panels, buttons isnt factory either.

Usually unlocking then relocking and unlocking again in the passenger or driver door will disable almost all alarm systems.
