i usually shift my 3ezv round 3500, if i really need to get up and go i push it to 4500.

If im pulling ill generally pull till about 4K and shift.

I am known to cruse (when towing) at 3500-4K though....

the auto in my 4 runner likes to push it all the way to 5+ befor shifing if your in it

normal driving shifting is under 3000. i haven't hit the top speed redline, yet. the speed limiter kicks in b4 it does
should not be any problems keeping it just below redline, just dont drive for a 1000mi with like that.

I have one for the turbo 4:

Here's another one for the 7M-GE and 7M-GTE Supra motors:

I have a few more for other 6 cylinder Toyota engines but cannot find them right now.

The rev limiter cuts in around 5500 rpm

Nice graphs Paddlenbike. Maybe it is the turbo "feel" but I would have swore the 22rte was more powerful than 3vge. Or is that graph for a newer 6cyl?

Nope! I have an auto and it lacks any kind of revv limiter. Redlining it to 5800rpm is no problem. In neutral I have accidentally revved it to 6500...I thought it was in gear and punched it...

With the blower, my 3.4 makes the most torque around 3600 rpm. Yes I have seen redline plenty of times. This engine seems bullet proof if set up right. Notice this is dyno run number 50.

The Toy's Supra motor has to be on e of the strongest engines out there in stock trim as even my friend's '97 laid down just over 700whp on the stock internals with just a better headgasket and ARP studs to hold the head down at 24psi pumping through a T66 turbo and ran low 10s in Phoenix with power everything, cruise and AC in tact and gets just over 30mpg at a steady 75mph on the highway.

the 20R and 22R are also very stout engines in stock form, with a forged crank and rods. good for at least 300hp before you need to look at billet rods...

I used to regularly approach redline in my MR-2, but not in my 3.slow. Usually no higher than 4K is needed on acceleration, and I like to cruise at around 3K on the freeway. It's not a racecar, and I need it to last!

My 92 has the limiter at around 5500-5800 but I am a standard. Does this mean that the auto does not have the limiter?

NO it does not hurt the motor to rev to 5K+
YES there is a factory rev limit set at 5600 i believe
YES obviously its not good for a engine to redline all the time

you cannot just ask such a basic and simple mechanical question as "does it hurt it to redline"? Sorry that is something my fiance would ask no offense

how far a engine can rev, hold together at RPMs etc is based on many different variables.....head valvetrain componatry is key and how it is capable of holding revs - what the springs are like etc. The factory puts in Factory rev limits so you can not overrev lets say and drop a valve. I have not experience ANY valve float up the the limiter (bouncing off it actually), so I surmise that Toyota has enough spring pressure in the stock springs to be good for what

I have not delved into the the 5VZ-FE engine yet. Anyone know what the interals are? Forged pistons? Powdered rods? There is not much info out there like there is for my supra and mustang
