bike mounts on bed
i have 2 of those bed mounts that are made to bolt on to stuff,
(the kind wher eyou take off the tire and its a skewer thingy) well i want to bud it on the bed rail of my tacoma that runs parralel to the rear window. has anyone done this before? i am trying to find a way to be able to get in there to hold the nut to tighten it up, if i cant find a way to do it that way i was going to take the body bolts off and slide the bed back an inch or 2, drill hole, bolt everyhting up and replace. let me know if any of you have done this and how you did it, thanks

I have two of them. I just screwd them to a 4 foot 2x4 and left it loose in the bed. When I put a bike in I just bungeed it to one of my tie downs. The other day I decided to take out my bedliner to clean under it and while it was out I bolted the 2x4 to the floor of the bedliner. That's nice cause it doesn't put holes in my acual bed. The nice thing about leaving it lose would be that you can switch it in between trucks/SUVs. I'm a poor college student and the 2x4 was the easiest/cheapest way I could make my mounts without mounting it directly to the bed.

I've seen people mount them to the top of the bedrails behind the cab. The only downsides I can think of are leaving permanent holes in the bedrail and the possibility of the bikes bending the sheetmetal on the bedrail over time, but I've never acually seen or heard of that happening.

I asked a similar question in this thread. Someone recommended using 'well nuts'. I didn't follow up on it any more though...not enough time!
