Question chevy 350 swap...help

Okay so I am in the process of building up my 1982 Toyota Pickup to be a trail/crawler rig and I am tired of the 22r. Plus it has over 300K on it so its about time. I have been scanning the forums and haven't seen any posts that could help me out. I am thinking about swapping the 22r with a chevy 350 small block. My question is what is a good year to throw in my yota? I know I'm going to probably do some fab work to get it in and get a new transmission. If anyone has done this please let me know everything you had to change. Thanks a ton.

Take a look at advanced adapters. They have all of the v8 swap parts you need.

I just yanked a 350 out of my 85. the motor itself is a early 80's carbed (with quadrajet) recently rebuilt (10k miles ago, no details on the rebuild, but it runs strong and clean).

I had picked up a nv4500 to put in (nearly new with only 3000 miles on it). Complete with bell housing clutch, fly wheel, etc. The tranny came from behind an LS1 in a super built jeep a guy was converting to a crawler with auto tranny.

I've since decided to go a different direction and now both motor and tranny are sitting in my garage. PM me if any of this sounds of use to you.

Scan a little harder, theres a forum for domestic swaps, and I have my buildup thread with my 350 swap.

Whats a good year? Thats a tough one. Theres TONS of 350's out there, from 180hp to 350hp. Older musclecar 350's like Corvette engines had more HP. 80's vette engines only had 180 or so. Id LOVE to have a Vortec 350 from say a 96 2500.

There sure is a lot of small-block chevy/domestic swaps going on.... Is this how they decided to solve the auto industry bailout?

motor swap

Advance adaptors has the hard parts you need. If you go with a late model fuel injected, painless wireing has everthing you need to hook up the computer. I would recomend a vortec 4.3 96 to2002 they put out around 190 horse, weigh 90 pounds less and fit better. If you didnt know the 4.3 is a 350 minus two cylinders.

All the adapters are out there search. This kinda swap is done all the time. I would go 4.3, but I am biased. I could hand you the swap manual, but that would be too easy. Downey wrote a book on it, I think you can throw away 5 bucks and download the PDF.

Corvette small blocks are pretty hard to come by, good luck. You'd be in good shape if you could find a pre-smog 350 (around 1973 and on the got smog restricted); they usually have a little more compression too.

i picked up a 5.3 ls vortec from fontana truck and auto for a $1,000 with everything and put it in my 81' yota with a cab swap, i went through Downey off road and his stuff is crap, i couldn't use any of it, i had to cut everything to make it work. i wish i went with advanced adapters, i delt with steve there. i live in california and it's a pain in the ass to deal with smog. but it was worth it. the motor has 350hp and 400 ft/lbs of torque,i'm have to modify the frame because it's wating to twist, so i'm custom fab up some braces. if you have the money and time go efi it's worth it
