Any one using an amp to power 6x9 speakers?

I just wired in my sub and amp. My amp is 250 watt two channel and it is desperately trying to power my MTX 12'' sub. It doesn't bump at all.

What I was thinking was to use that 250 watt little amp to power two 6x9 speakers that I was going to put in the middle interior panels. Then just buy a higher watt amp for the sub.

Any one tried it and liked it?

What brand name amp?

Whats the RMS rating on the amp?

What gauge wire running to the amp from battery?

Is the sub a DVC or Single?

Any 250 watt RMS amp (even wired single channel) should be able to push a MTX 12". I would check to make sure for a good ground and that the adjustments on the amp are in the correct setting.

Where are you placing the sub? Placement is critical. What's the fuse rating on the amp?

Fuse rating has nothing to do with it. Its either working or not.

Gauge of the power wire is important.

Forgot to ask if the amp is bridgeable go ahead and bridge it down and try that out.

I run a 12" Kenwood swirl powered by a 250W RMS bridged alpine sub and two Sony 6x9s as rear speakers (and 6" alpine fronts) powered off a 52x4 jvc headunit and it sounds nice. Adjusting the crossover I can easily set the sub low enough that you can't hear it over the 6x9s. I'm running 8gauge power and ground wires. Bridge your amp if possible and check your crossover.

Wow. Fuse rating tells a lot. Simply asking if the amp is really 250 watts. The fuse tells you that. If it has a cheesy 15A fuse, then the amp is not 250w, for instance. An amp with, say, a 30A fuse will power a 12" sub just fine. I'll stop there... whatever.

If I have a 125 watt amp powering 2 12" with a 60 AMP fuse am I over powering them?!?!?!?!?!?!

If I have a 1200.1 powering a 12" SVC sub with a 100 AMP fuse but I have 24 gauge wire, am I overpowering it?

R=V/I

I simply asked for what brand, the wire gauge, and RMS power. If he can answer that we can tell if its a good enough amp or not.

Please Google "Ohm's Law"

E stands for voltage. Then comes the Power Law. That's P=IE. Come on, guys.

sorry guys....forgot.

It is a sony 2 channel. not sure of any other specs...it is old.

I am powering it with a decent wiring kit from best buy that was like 30 bucks a couple years ago.

I am running it bridged. I just think the sub needs more power, it has a good sound, but it is massive(very heavy)

When I am sober enough, I will go and check it out tomorrow....lol
