Hi Everyone,
I have a 1998 Toyota 4Runner limited with a Factory Radio, CD, tapedeck. The CD player is skipping on the smallest bumps. Any ideas on how to fix outside of getting a new radio? Thanks.

You dont fix it, You replace it, The CD player anti shock works great when its new but after a few years and weathering the rubber shocks inside sag causing the disk to hit the insersionplate, If they foamfilled them it may have lasted alot longer.
I have pulled 2 apart and both had the same problem and you cant re-inforce them because the ride will be to rough and make it skip anyways.

What years of radios are interchangeable? My cd player on comes out of the left side speakers now...the radio works fine. I think it is from too much wheeling.

Alot are interchangable, I even had a am/fm casset, EQ, From my 85 celica but really needed a CD player so bought a POS Sony, TIme for something new now.

My 98 ltd CD also skips if the road is the least bit rough. The stock radio is fine for me, but I do want both CD and cassette. I see there are lots of used stock radios for sale. I figure the newer years would be better + maybe have more features like aux in or MP3 play. Any idea what years would slip right in and use the same connectors?

Also does my radio have the 12pin changer plug? This seems to be the common way to add aux in.

I just did this, swapped out my '96 cassette deck for a double DIN unit. On the front of your radio, what model number does it say?

My model is 56808. It is the tall unit (double din?) with CD, Cass, Radio. Since I got a new set of tires, the CD does not skip as bad. I have had it out before when I was looking to see if I could fix the CD myself, but from the other posts I believe I'd have to replace the CD module. Seems simpler to just replace the entire radio. I'd rather have a stock looking unit since they don't get stolen. I don't have the external CD changer, and if the radio supports it, I would use an MP3 player and an aux in instead.
