So there's a guys here in Denver that offered me a great deal on a flat black body wrap for my 4Runner. He said everything would be done professionally and he'd only use 3M vinyl. I know this would look great, but I love wheeling and was wondering if this would be durable enough, and how it would work on my not so perfect 4Runner body. Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Competition buggies use them all the time. Depends on how much you trash on it already.
Had one on my tailgate 3 years now still looks great.

How easily do they tear? I just don't want a brand or rock to hit the wrap and leave a noticeable tear.

My company has body wraps on some delivery vehicles, one was in a crash and the bumper caved, but the vinyl was fine just molded to the new dents. A branch wouldn't do much, but rocks would. Although I can't imagine it would be worse than rock on paint.

If you want flat black why not just spray paint it and be done?

...because that always looks like someone doesn't care and spray bombed it in a sad attempt to make it look better...which it rarely does. Plus its not permanent and doesn't decrease the value.

The 3m wraps I've seen are the same stuff the use as a stone shield on the front of hoods and fenders to protect them from rock chips. That stuff is awesome. Really hard to take off when we have to paint a hood. And protects the paint really well. There is a solid line of new looking paint where the wrap ends on the hood. Keep in mind. it won't stick to rust and if water gets between the wrap and the paint...the rust will spread big time.

If you take the time to do some prep work a flat rattle can job can look pretty good and it is extremely easy to touch up after some wheeling rash.

I'm a drummer and I had a bunch of cymbals that i got for practically free, and he said he'd do the full body wrap as a straight across trade. I could probably sell them all of for about $500, but that's great compared to paying $1500 for a new body wrap. I just don't know if i want to sell em and put the money toward a repaint or just go with the body wrap.

Also, I'm not completely set on getting a flat black. It was just an option that the guy proposed. Honestly though, I know nothing about body wraps.

Well if its basically free for you then go for it. Since you offroad your truck you will most likely tear it up though and I doubt it would be as easy to touch up like paint is.

Take some pics if and when you get it done.

I don't think tis going to tear easilly. That stuff is tough. Lots of new trucks and cars have it on their rear wheel wells so they don't get beat up with rocks and start rusting. Its still in good shape after a few years of being pounded with gravel.

I'm thinkin' i may go for it. I'll need to do some body work first, but i think the final product could look pretty unique and cool. Other than flat black, do you guys have any color recommendations?

For what it's worth, I believe the guys at Expedition Overland have wraps on their rigs, at least on the Land Cruiser, and those trucks most certainly get used in the bush.

We use graphics only on the sides with our logo on top. They look quite decent but if you don’t want to use full body wraps then you can use the partial ones. They are very affordable and look good as well.

If someone ask you to add vehicle wraps on their car , your team with wrap put your logo on it for the sake of promotion,Can you clear my point here ?
