T100 owner need opinion: 2wd or 4wd 5spd or auto
Hi everyone!
I can not decide which way to go so i am looking for pros and cons on this.
I am planning to go on a baja/rally style race in the amateur/open category.I have 95' t-100 5spd 2wd/love the truck/.I was thinking to build it up or go 4wd.The course does not require 4wd but would like to hit up some trails sometimes/are t-100 to big for the trails?/Looked around and seems like it is easier/cheaper to sell and buy another one than converting mine to 4wd.
Does 4wd t-100 have a stronger chassis and frame or would the 2wd stand-up to the off-road abuse with some suspension mods?
Manual trucks seem a bit "jumpy" on the trails than automatics so i was thinking to go auto this time but do not know how reliable it is.Only had automatic once and afraid of it for not being reliable and being more$ maintenance.Do t-100 tundras and tacomas use the same automatic tranny?
any comment is appreciated
thanks and

Personally i'd go with a manual 4x4. Easier to control power and 4x4 is just way more fun than 2wd. About them being too big for the trails, that all depends on where you live. I know by me (NJ) much of the trails are too narrow for a T-100 but out in AZ the trails are nice and wide. I would assume a 4x4 T-100 would have a stronger frame but i am not 100% positive. About automatics not being reliable, that is garbage, they are just as reliable as a manual as long as you take care of it, i.e. changing the tranny fluid, etc. And i'm pretty sure the T-100's and Tacomas use the same auto tranny but again im not 100% sure.
Why not just get a 90's 4x4 Pickup? It has all the stuff you want plus its a smaller size so you'll fit on the trails. Not to mention there isn't much as far as aftermarket stuff for the T-100's. And if you want the T-100 for room, the extended cab Pickup has a decent amount of room too.

Well i do like the t-100 for everything it has to offer size /it is somewhere between tacos pickups and tundras/,roominess/6 seater/ the 3.4, price and of course the cool factor when you have one built
