Suspension Height Question 2WD vs 4WD 4Runners

Hello everyone!

Can someone explain to me why my 1997 4Runner SR5 2WD is about 1.5" lower than my brother's 1999 4Runner Limited 4WD? Both trucks have stock suspension. Does this means that if Both of us were to install the ToyTec 3" lift that comes with OME Coils (front & back) to acheive 3" lift, his truck will look higher than mine? Please explain!!!
Thanks!

Ok well only thing I can think of is yours is a SR5 and 2wd so it wasnt designed for offroading. So toyota prob put a more stockier suspension for road handling. Thus making the truck shorter for lower center of gravity. His is a limited and 4wd so it might be the exact opposite. Since its 4wd they made it beefier and so it sits higher. Now on noticing a difference between the two. That all depends on what tires you run. Or put a 1.5 inch Bl on it and solve all your probs

If anyone has any better insight. Please chime in.

ok so toyota made the '99 4runner coils taller than any other 3rd gen and the fact that its limited has something do with it. I dunno if 4wd or 2wd makes a diff though... i will say that i have a 2wd sport and i have the toytec 3" lift and it sits high, i love it so much.

See I thought all the coils were the same it was just the set up that made it sit lower cause of the 2wd. I could be wrong though. If thats the case though why doesn't my 99 SR5 sit any higher then a 99 limited. Maybe I got shafted on the deal and its only limited maybe?!?1 who knows. Idk though. Do a 3 inch lift and a 1.5inch BL and your sitting the same height

Well you do have a 2wd which typically sit lower bc they are made to have a better suspension for the road and only for the road. it might also have something to do with him having a '99 4wd limited. In that year they made what we call a "tall" coil setup where the 4runners sat up taller then any other 3rd gen year made. Not all '99s came with these though. If you two were to install the same setup i don't imagine his being much taller. I don't quite know what's involved in lifting a 2wd 4runner though so might want to make sure everything is compatible.

ya lifting a 2wd is basically the same as lifting a 4wd. I got the OME 3" lift off of toytec and installed the coils and shock 882/891 (medium load) and that was about it. I didnt get a drop diff bc i heard u only need that if ur 4wd but my subs made the 4runner even anyways well until 3 days ago when i took off my spare and running boards.

oh ya and i would assume ur bro's 4runner and urs would be the same height aafter lifted. The '99 limited has taller coils but if u both have the same lifted coils then itll be the same height, well theoretically at least.

True. All of the suspension mounts are the same. If you put the same lift on the two vehicle they will be the same height.

(a 3" lift on a 99 will be less height gain than most other years)
