Speedo and Odometer dont work, Any suggestions?

I bought a 1990 pickup with the 3vze a few months ago, and my speedo and odometer dont work at all, just the fuel and temp. How could i go about trouble shooting and fixing this problem?

And just for future references, the Odo works off the speedo... It's all one unit, controlled by one source.

Check the back of the transfer case, usually passenger side. There will either be a mechanical cable or an electronic VSS screwed in there. Transition from mech. to elect. was made some time in the early 90s models.
