help with 87 yota project plans

ok guys i need some help figuring out what to do, and need some imput. I currently have an 87' toyota hilux IFS 22re, and i do all my own work! and am capable of doing so. Since buying it as a totally stock truck a few years ago i have already rebuilt the motor, full rebuild! all the way to the pistons. i have also rebuilt the the trans from the bottom up, including marlincrawler heavy duty rebuilt kit. Then i wanted to fit 33 12.5s under it so i temporarilly put a 2 in body lift on it as well. so far invested i have about 6 grand into the truck, and i realize i will never get even half of it back. lol oh well ive had it for about 3 years now and have loved every moment of it! so other than those upgrades and a very top of the line rediculous stereo its pritty much stock. Now not that it doesnt get arround now, but i want more! Now this truck is my dailly driver/ weekend warrior, and i would like to keep it that way. my first thoughts/ plans are doing the diffs and axles, and going to 4;88s with a arb in the rear and alimited slip in the front, and crome olley rear axels. now when i do things, i do them right! this will include all new bushing bearing ect, and it will run me about $2,650+ tax and shipping. "considering i do all my own work."

but this is where the dellema starts.... Do i keep the ifs front? or do the sas and put the gears in that?

second delema... i really enjoy the ifs front end, i enjoy baja'n my truck through the desert at rediculous speeds, and sometimes even going air born, just as much as i love to crawl it on slick rock in moab. so i need to do be able to do both! Now please bias sas'ers i have seen the old the old downey off road ifs kits compete in urock and do amazing! way more than my truck could even imagine doing now! as well as take 3 feet of air like it was nothing! Problem is downey went under and those kits to my knowledge are unavailable. Soooo does anyone know of an ifs kit that could do both?

3rd delema.... i dont particularly love baja fiberglass fenders. i just dont like they way they look. if there is a kit that can do both well, will i need them?

4th delema.... should i be doing this on a newer truck? maybe one with 4 doors and twice the HP aka V6? sticking with a toyota of coarse!

if you like the ifs, keep it that way. i have solid axle now and miss the comfort of the ifs, but i still have fun. total chaos offers long travel ifs susp kits that are able to take jumping and you can still retain your 4 wheel drive by using t-100 front axles. long travel ifs will require glass fenders since it moves your front tires outward. and finally your 22re will do fine if your getting taller gears to compensate for bigger tires.

You wont be able to setup the gears with the ARB in them by yourself. The front one you might be able to.
but the rear with arb would be best left to a pro

if i can do them on a peterbuilt i can do them on my truck. lol

Why not? Plenty of people do.

i'm curious... how much of my truck can be swapped into a 87' of similar body style 4runner? i think i may want to build one of those instead.

My experience has been that parts from any Toyota IFS pickup through to 94 or any IFS 4runner through to the late nineties (excluding motor parts for V6 vs. I4) fit great. You can take a lot of parts off a solid axle truck too.

I'd stick to the 4 cylinder. The V6's have a reputation for being slower, heavier, and more gas-hungry than the 22R series.
