im going to run my toyota axles for right now, i don't wanna run full size right now even though i know thats the much stronger/better route to go. i am planing to run between 37's to 40's but am not sure enough to say right now (i know thats a fair amount of difference) what would you say would be the bare minimum i would need in my axle so that i'm not breaking stuff EVERY SINGLE TIME I HIT THE TRAIL (breakin stuff is fun just not every time ) i plan to do about every type of wheeling mud,rock,snow, and maybe a tiny bit of sand. this will also be drivin on the road till i can buy a hauling trailer maybe be a year or two. some trips may be long trips to go wheel (highway driving) and was also wondering what gears to run....5.29 good enough or maybe 5.71.....??? thanks ahead of time fellow offroad freaks

Get all the Longfields and chromoly that'll fit those diffs and hubs and good luck!

You will be surprised how strong these axles are. Longfields in the front, cryo'd 5.71s and it should be good to go. A friend of mine has a trail only truck running 40s and treats it like crap. Never broken the stock rear shafts. Oh and front axle truss is a good idea as well.

see thats what i'm seeing, either people say there is NO WAY good luck, or they say its very doable. i'm just trying to figure out which is true....

Driving style and lines taken will do wonders. And only your experience will be your truth. There are a lot of factors, so there is no right answer. Personally, I just prefer to be best prepared to try and compensate for my retardness and right foot....

Cryo'd parts, chromoly parts, whatever I could get is what I would put in if I could afford it. Otherwise, I'd run stock as long as I could and then start replacing the weak links.

They freeze it and it strengthens the metals. I'm no scientist, but I've seen cryo'd gears survive some amazing beatings. Cryogenics is the name. Google that. Zuk does a lot of cryo'd gear sets, so he would be a good one to ask, or visit his site. www.gearinstalls.com

Short for cryogenized... it a hardening process used to make the gears a little stronger. Its a good idea for 5.71s being the ring and pinion don't have nearly the amount of depth. Under rough treatment, the ring gear is a little easier to strip.

Cryogenic hardening, its where they cool the parts with liquid nitrogen and then allow them to come up to room temp which hardens the metal.

Longs, gusseting, cryo gears, trunnion eliminator kit or marlins big pin arms. Add it all up and then see where you stand from there. If you plan on running tons in the future, I would suggest just doing it, thats where I am now.
Everybody will hate it and tell you to run the Toyota stuff, I am not saying that they couldn't take it, those little axles are some tough axles for anything smaller then a 1 ton truck, let alone a mini. But just because some are good on 40's, some may not be, I personally have always loved the look of full size axles under a Yota and know I can drive it stupid and not worry about the axles. The choice is yours and yours alone, do your research and compare prices and options and then decide.

No need for anything larger than 37s on Toy axles and you can do most anything.

Front axle
Chromoly axles and birfs 30 spline
Chromoly hub gears inner and outer or chromoly drive flanges
Six shooter knuckles and steering arms
Six pin dowel mod on hubs
ARP knuckle and hub studs

Rear axle
Chromoly axle shafts
