Hey, What are the biggest tire size I can put on a stock lift 4wd toyota pick-up, 1993. And what is the best tire for the beach? It is gonna be my fishing truck.

Ive been in the sand lots of times and in my experience the wider the tire the better and even more important the less aggressive the better . Im sorry I cant tell you what size will fit your rig maybe a good tire shop would be willing to test fit a few different tires sizes . Also when in sand you can air down to around 10 psi and usually no matter what tire your running you will be just fine .

33x10.50 is the biggest for stock.

I would suggest a good all terrain tread pattern.

The key is to float on top of the sand and not dig down.
This means you want as wide as feasible and use low airpressure when on the sand.
ProComp AT or Firestone Destination AT's are what your looking for.

Dont forget of a way to air up when our back on the street.

The biggedt i would run is 31x12.50 that way if u do bog a little maybe u can get out.. i wouldnt run 33s without cranking tbars or adding a rear leaf

I was kind of thinking of going with 31 x 10, do they fit on stock rims?

Yeah they should.... i have nvr ownd a set of stock toyota wheels if they rub a little to much u could either trim the front valance if its rubbing there or get a set of wider toyota or chevy wheels... the eider wheel on a 31x10 will make the tire a little shorter while a really narrow rim on a 31x12.5 will make it taller

The old style Goodyear Wranglers are great in sand, at least the 35"x12.5" flavor.

High tech retreads uses that pattern on their mud tires.

Paddles? Lol and 15+ inch rims. Anyways on the sand I don't see you need taller tires so don't go 33. Go with 31x12.5 with 8 or 10 inch wide rims. Rubbing if any will only come from full stuff and turned max

The best tires I have used for the Beach / Sand were Armstrong Norseman radials but they are no longer in business. The closest tread pattern / tire design I have found that matches the Norseman is the Dick Cepek Fun Country II radial. I would run 31"-10.50 and air them down to about 25PSI on the beach.

the Norsemans were good, I had some 20'ish years ago.
25 psi?? I would go down to more like 12-15..
like mentioned earlier a good compressor will help get aired back up when you reach pavement

An all-terrian tire usually works pretty good on the sand. A 31x10.50 or 32x11.50 on stock rims is a decent size.

I ran some 33x15.50 Swamper SX's on my '85 when I went to Pismo some time ago. They were pretty much unstoppable as far as flotation, I had them at 2 psi here, truck is pushing me along while trying to stop it:


Later on that trip, dropped to about 1 psi and got the nice sidewall wrinkles and then they worked just awesome. Only problem I had with those tires in the sand was not having enough HP with a 22RE to keep them turning up the longer, steeper dunes.

I have to say that this site is awesome. Its great that as a group we all pitch in with answers and suggestions to help each other out. I have solved a few engine problems and now have all this info to help select my tires. Thanks to everybody and keep it up.

I used to run a set of Nitto Dune Grapplers... They were amazing in the sand, quiet on the street and the tread pattern is bad a$$!!!

How did u run 2psi wjthout spinning off the bead? In thay picture u dont appear to have any beadlocks

I've run 15# on 31x10.50x15's on the beach for decades. I have now and have had MT's that I've used for trips where I wind up on the beach at some point(mountains, desert, beach all in one trip for about 2 weeks).. But the BFG AT/KO's at 31x10.50 on stock aluminum SR5 rims at 15# have always done fine. I did a lil better with 33x12.50's, but as said, only cuz they were wider, not taller... and while taller can help in the trails/creeping a bit through rocks, etc., ... in the sand, if you sink enough to dig in the diff's... you're too dug in anyhow, lol.

31x10.50's will fit on stock rims JUST FINE and have NO rubbing at stock height, at all. 33x12.50's CAN work, but I've usually had to hammer on the pinch welds a lil, and they sometimes rubbed on the mudflaps, depending on what type of rim/how wide, etc. The 33's worked EASILY with a 3" lift and cleared in every way, stuff/full turn, etc.

PS> Never had a problem with the 22RE's I've run in sand... But then, I've not run 35 Swampers with em, so that might have slowed me down a bit... I can see that, lol.

15inch wide rubber and looks like maybe 10inch wide rim

i ran 11.5 inch wide rubber on 8 inch wide rim and when mounted it just about seated on its own being so wide lol

My 32x11.50 MT's spare set are on 8" Outlaw 2's and they are perfect... No rounding, etc.

Yep, 10" rims and those things were so hard to mount, I had to have a truck tire place mount them for me. A regular car tire mounting jig did not cut it. Ran them at 1-2 psi in sand and snow, where you probably can't get enough grip to spin the tires on the rims. In the rocks, generally ran around 5 psi and no problems with spun beads, either.
