About to drill t-stat. Need help
Truck:
1985 22re, 2.4 EFI
Problem:
Temp overshot
What I have done so far:
Head gasket
Repack fan clutch
New water pump
New radiator, not plastic
Plugs & wires
Thermostat pn# 09916-03078 which was the stock part as per the parts desk.
I am about to try and drill the thermostat and need to know where the holes go?
The left one is the one I have now. The right one is what I should have gotten. Should I drill or should I just get the pn#90916-03070 like the 4crawler writeup.
Is there any drawbacks to drilling vs the 03070?

I need to replace mine soon, used a stock part # last time, and drilled it. Works well, but its getting old. Where the heck are y'all getting the dual models for 20 or less? Dealer near me wants $45, last I checked. Bout 4 months ago.

I don't think I've ever spent more than $8 for a t stat. It's a good idea to run an aftermarket temp gauge too. The sr5 stockers are commonly unreliable. Besides good to know the exact temp.
Fyi I use 180f thermostats

I go 180 degree, too. Replace yearly, just because. Right about this time of year. Do ya think that (with all other temp related sensors in good shape) running a 180* thermo would have any noticeable effect on mileage?
