I recently bought a bagged and bodied 1993 Extended cab pick up with the 22r motor. It currently has a manual trans in it. I would like to swap for and auto. Im really new to the toyota scene and dont know much about them. My main question is what auto trans would be the correct one for the swap.

Most importantly, why swap to an auto? Thats a step down.

Yeah man, sell that one and buy one with an auto. The autos go cheaper around here than the sticks anyway.

I'm not building it for power. Its more for cruising. Id like to have the convenience of the auto so I'll be able to control the switch box for the suspension.

Understandable (I guess). I think it's been done, try some googling. I'm pretty sure you need to switch out ecu's (you need an A/T one). Toyota actually had a very solid A/T in some of these truck w/ a good reputation. I'd tell you which one but I don't remember - I'm a clutch guy

Oh thats good, cause the 22r with manual will smoke a Porsche.
Just saying, your gonna lose power and mpg for a little convenience, and I agree with above that it would be alot easier to just get a truck with an auto.

So your 93 has a 22r uh, not a 22re? Theres a diff,, especially for trany swaps, computers and all that stuff.

Problem is I've done googleing and haven't found much that's actually how I found this forum. I've talked to a couple of people and I know there are 2 different auto transmissions out there but they are different length so I don't know what one to look for.

A parts truck may be a good idea. Get your trans and electrical stuff but it would also be good for reference. You may wind up using a whole new drivetrain.

look for the one that would have came in a 93 2, or 4wd we dont know yet?

My fault It is a 22re that im planning on carbing. Its a 2wd.

Now im extra confused,, why are you going to carb an EFI motor? Your taking 2 steps backwards

I guess Im on the wrong site. I understand the majority of this site seems to be about mudding and rock climb which is awesome. But Im building a body dropped and bagged show truck thats not for racing. Id like to carb it with the webber side draft set up simply because of the way it looks. Id like to do the trans for simple slow low rolling. I thought someone on here maybe able give me some insite. I understand everyones concerns but thats not what Im looking for.

Fair enough sorry if i came off like an ass not what i was going for. I mentioned in the OP that it was bagged and bodied. I am really new to the yota scene i know nothing about them. Ive had a bagged car for years and its been complete for ever so now Im finally getting back into a project agian and really dont know where to begaind. I got a good deal on 93 thats already body dropped and bagged but needs to be put back together. Id like to put my own touches on it as well.

If you want the auto you're going to have to keep the EFI if you don't want to be stuck buying a shifter/shift controller and still shifting it manually.

For the auto swap, finding a donor truck and swapping the wiring harness, computer and trans/torque converter and flex plate in would be the easiest way to go about it. Good luck on that though, since 4 cylinder, automatic 2wd trucks are few and far between.

and most I've seen are always column shift too!
