Smile New 4th Gen Advice

My current ride is a 01 Sport and I'm thinking about moving on to the next gen 4Runner. I thought I'd seek some advice from those of you who already have 'em before I spend a dime and have found this site to be very helpfull and knowledgeable. I am going to look at an 05 sport V6 and a 06 sport V6 both in black on Sat, the 06 has 50k on it for $19K and the 05 has 87K on it for $15K. I'm looking for any pointers or tips on what to look for ,any known problems with either year? one model updated for better or worse? and any thoughts on the price for either. Thanks in advance,

FJ Cruiser owner here, but they are built on the same frame/platform.
The V6 is powerful enough just in case you do run across a V8 one too.
I have owned V8s in the past, and this new 4.0 V6 from Toyota has gobs of low end torque and power.

My boss has a 4th gen 4Runner with the V8, and he wishes he had gone with the V6 after driving others.

Yeah I've pretty much decided that I'm sticking with a V6 and it will be a sport model as well. I just wonder if it is worth the extra money to get an 06 or newer or are they identical to the 03-05 models? Of the two I'm looking at there is only 30K difference between the two in mileage which doesn't bother me just wonder if I can justify spending extra 4 grand for an 06 over an 05. Other than that I have to say I haven't been the biggest fan of the 4th Gens appearance until I got a look at Fo-Sheezys ride and now the look is growing on me fast to the point I have to have one. Once again I appreciate any tips or info provided.

I've heard that from numerous people as well Corey, did you boss specifically mention why?(ie, Too much power? bad mileage?)

I believer in 03-05 you couldnt get the color keyed fenders except on limiteds or something. Check out auto trader and do a search for 03-08 4runners, The 03-05 will have the gaudy gray...

MPG
He has been thinking of a Highlander hybrid.
Mainly for his wife, he drives a Lexus 300 from '98, and it looks brand new.
Even has factory GPS in the dash.

Well someone else was already in the 06 for a test drive when I showed up this morning so I took it as a sign maybe it wasn't the right time or vehical for me. The salesman called me about 15 minutes after I left and said it was available and ready for a test drive but I told him I had other vehicals to look at and I would call him back if I was in the area (I live 35 minutes away). I also figured if the other party was interested it would be more difficult to negotiate a great deal. I'll wait and see if it is still around in a week or two otherwise my current ride suits me just fine.
Thanks for the pointers and keep 'em coming.
