windshield repair, what to use on rust?

I've recently removed my front window and am in process of cleaning up the area around the windshield, there is a lot of surface rust and i'm trying to neutralize it and protect everything,
I've heard that por-15 isn't the best to use because apparently the silicone doesn't stick well to it.
Does anyone have any better rust neutralization tricks? I'm hoping never to have a problem with this area again.

Hit up your local paint and body supply shop.
Products specifically for this problem.

Yes, there are multiple products (one used to be Xtend - not to be confused with the herbal supplements) that are a primer product that turn rust into a black, neutral compound. They work great, I've used on several different vehicles.

If this truck is a keeper I'd be sandblasting.
It's the only thing I trust to remove rust long term. Blasted the rust out of my car when I re-did 11 years ago and still no signs of it coming back

I think i'l be blasting it, just never wanted to make a mess. I stopped by my paint store anyways and picked up some pre-rust prep spray, it has phosphoric acid and zinc mixtures, something similar to the xtend i'm guessing, works greta, seems to neutralize the rust and turns it black.

same problem

I need to repair my window frame, water is coming into the cab, I want to do a quick fix, I know its bad but I plan on getting a new(used) truck in the near future, any how I dont want to invest a lot of time into it, my plan is to protect the windshield, strip out the rust, treat it then urethane the gap, my question lies in the treating of the rust, what could I treat it with that will accept the urethane?
