Speakers under back seat of 4runner?

I measured this part between the hinges here and it seems that a 6x9 speaker MIGHT fit here, but mainly I'm just curious if anyone has 6x9 speakers mounted here.

Oh, and I know there is enough room on the jack side of the seats, but what is behind the other side? It seems hollow, but I'm not sure.

Did you try looking under the vehicle?

On the pass side, you have the fuel tank and pump.

I don't see how you're going to place speakers in there and manage to keep them safe and clean. Have you thought of just putting them behind the seats and in the body side walls? Maybe even some smaller ones overhead? I know smaller ones are made with kickars sound.

Haha, alright. I wasn't sure if the right side was like the left with a little bit of hollow space there...

Guess I'm back to square one....

Good luck. I love Yotas, but they don't give you much room to work with...

I bypassed the factory amps (they were fried), just ran the wires straight to the speakers. Works great.

you could even put the 6x9's in the small wood boxes that they make for them and hand them on the roll bar, I had a friend who did that in his 4runner and it sounded pretty good.

by the looks of the avatar, hes got a second gen... which means hes prolly not got the roll bat in there...
a good place might be, if you have those little cubby compartments in the back on either side, like mine does, then take and mount the 6x9s there... just tap into the 5 3/4 in stock speaker lines...

Sweet! Thanks for the ideas guys!

I was thinking about getting some 6x9's to go in the rear side panels, but I didn't think they would fit! I guess they will!

I would like to use the rear 'cubby compartments' but I already keep a bunch of crap in them! Lol.

The way I have my stereo setup consisted of no fabrication to the vehicle. I just have two nice 4's in the front factory slots, nice 6.5's under the driver and passenger seat and two more power hungry 4's in the rear factory slots.

Granted my type R and two amps take up a fair chunk of my rear storage ability, everything else is completely hidden and I don't have to worry about it.

just a fair warning, when i installed my 5.75" kickers in the rear in the factory locations, they didnt mount in perfect, and i had to screw them to the hard black plastic case that they sit into...
also, if they have the tweeter towers built in, as my kickers do, then they will be a VERY close fit with the side panel... my passenger side speaker pushes out just a hair, but i just make sure not to slam anything into the side panels back there...

Alright, thanks for the info guys!

I've already replaced the 2 front 4'' speakers in the dash with Pioneers. Sounds A LOT better than the blown factory ones that were in there... But they still don't provide enough

speakers need room
if you can't put the 6x9's in boxes under the seats with the boxes big enough to handle all the range of movement of the speaker without restricting it, don't bother

google speaker enclosure construction
