Brought back memories of a multiple choice question during our exam in Naval Tech Training Center, Memphis... What tool do you use to remove the rectifier (or something) (1) BFH, (2) Special Service Tool ... LOL!
Good ol' NATTC. I was in the electronic side of the house. I think I was in 902 the first time I went through. Yeah, they always wanted you to say "Special Service Tool", even though you KNEW the right answer was BFH.

I recently replaced these hoses on my 87 with bulk hose from local parts store and no issues so far after about 50 miles of driving. I had to shop around to find the hose with an inner and outer dimension to match the oem hose. First two stops had stock hose with slightly smaller OD. I was concerned a smaller OD might cause a seal problem for the original Toyota hose clamps.
Yes, matching ID and OD is important, and to ensure the pressure side can take the pressure the pump puts out is also important. My biggest concern, though, would be will they handle the ATF fluid, vs the Power Steering Fluid that you would expect to be running through them. All rubber is not the same, after all.
Just look at what happens if you use fuel line for water, or vice versa. When you first install, they work fine, but after a while, at least with the fuel line in water situation, the rubber get's softer and softer, and swells up. Not good!
Not that I would know from experience...ahem....nothing to see here...move along...

Have fun all!

Installing New Rebuilt Toyoda Gear Box from NAPA

Gear box from NAPA is actually reman from Toyoda core, so that's good.

My steering wheel is on 12 o'clock "locked" position and wheels are as straight / symmetrical as possible.

Right Side

Left Side

QUESTION for you, guys:
The input shaft on gear box turns a couple of rotations either way before it hits limits. I should find the center before install, correct? FSM and youtube videos do not cover this.
UPDATE:
Rebuilt gear box has alignment marks on output shaft. I still vedified that it is positioned at center.

Just one question, if I may be so bold as to ask...
What's a ToyoDa?

I always thought my truck's tailgate said ToyoTa. In fact, I went and looked. It does.

So, what's a Toyoda?

Just curious. Carry on!

Founder was Kiichiro ToyoDa (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiichiro_Toyoda). Supposedly name was changed to ToyoTa because the latter sounded better and required only 8 strokes of the pen instead of 10 for the former; Toyota had always been a proponent of efficiency and waste reduction

Well, I'll be darned. I learn something new each day, if I'm not not very careful.

Thanks for the info, RAD, I appreciate you setting me straight!

What Would Be Torque for Brass Fittings?

FSM calls for 33 foot-pound torque for the stock steel fittings. New high-pressure hose for NAPA has brass fittings. Would they take same torque. I use 17-mm crow's foot wrench.

NEW HIGH-PRESSURE HOSE FROM NAPA HAS BRASS FITTINGS

34-YO HIGH PRESSURE HOSE. Looks like the inner rubber hose is being extruded through the braid. This must be how "sweating" hose starts.

34-YO LOW PRESSURE/RETURN HOSE

SPECIAL SERVICE TOOL FOR DRILLING CURVED HOLES - LOL!
First time I saw a drill bit bend as I was drilling out the tack weld on the high-pressure hose clamp. JUST CAN'T DRILL/KILL A HILUX
