ifs front with spartan locker and selectable ADD?

My rig- 1988 4runner with 3.4l swap, OME rear springs and torsion bars and 33x10.5 KO2s and soon to have e-locker in the rear. My idea- spartan locker in the front with ADD swapped in with a switch to engage front end. Is this a stupid idea or not or has someone done this and it worked out? My thought is it would kind of be selectable front locker.

I think you are talking about using the vacuum actuator on front differential to engage one front wheel. I'm fairly certain another member on here, possibly RJR, has done exactly what you are thinking.

It should work fine as long as the locker will work with the front diff.

May be worthwhile to look for a pre-ADD axle tube. A bit stronger as it doesn’t use a sleeve to connect axle shafts. With locking hubs not really any onroad changes to having front locker on IFS with hubs unlocked.

It would be simpler to just leave the drivers hub unlocked and hop out and lock it when you need true 4wd.

But, yes. Yes you could.

Thanks for the replies and input guys. I did find a thread with RJR and coryc85 talking about this and RJR said he would not do it again. I would have to swap in the ADD front axle and wire the actuator so I will not be doing this. Rattlewagon has the best idea. Thanks again.

My understanding of the ADD system (grain of salt...never had one), is that it disconnects one side, and relies on the open differential to prevent the driveshaft from spinning. This would be completely negated by the locker. I suppose it would allow you to disconnect it from the driver's seat (if it doesn't bind up) so you can turn more easily, but you wouldn't be able to completely disconnect the front end for street use.
