OK i've got 33" x12.5 bfg m/t km's on stock gears (4.10) 5 spd v6... it does fine. It's no rocket ship, but it will accelerate in 5th (dont floor it and bog it, just ease into it)... but down shift to 4th if you need to accelerate at highway speeds.

ALSO, remeber your speedo is now off 15%, so when it says youre doing 75, youre actually doing 85!
Just keep it in 4th gear on the highway, the rev's will be exactly the same as stock. Just think of 5th as a deep overdrive (with the big tires and stock gears, it's actually technically the same ratio as the auto O/D)
I dont know why you guys say it's unbearable, you're just rediculous. maybe if you have a 22r auto, then yes i'd agree, but v6 5 spd.. no prob...

But other than that its fine. Been like that for about a year. I was told that as long as the ratios are within .3 of each other then it is fine. Sand rails sometimes do this, to get the front wheels to travel faster than the back wheels, as long as its not in a bind I think it would be fine.
yea....DO NOT follow this advice. See above statements for the reasons why. "Jumps a little on pavement" You really think your drivetrain binding up enough to make the truck jump is NOT doing major damage?

Sand rails also travel in....lets see...SAND. Not a whole lot of tire grip there. You dont have to worry about binding in sand, since its so soft it will just slip. If you are crawling, or trying to get over a tough obstacle, you do not want your drivetrain binding, or bucking in any way.

locker doesnt affect gears, i think even the 4runners that had 4.88's and werent regearable, are able to have a locker in later.

I'd do it all at once, how many times do you want to pay to have your rear axle rebuilt?

The theme here is doing it right the first time. Save up for what you really want. Doing it twice just costs more.
