I just recently bought a 84 4runner and when driving home got on the brakes a bit and it pulled to the right. After checking the brakes the left caliper had what looked like both inside piston were stuck. After working them out and going for a drive I think they still might be stuck should I just take the plunge and buy two new calipers because thats what I am thinking of doing.

My shop cost at O'reillys for loaded v6 calipers is $40, then get vented rotors. I'd just go that route. It's a nice upgrade anyhow.

I've got an '85 4Runner and I had the same issue. If I tapped the brakes without my hands on the steering wheel it would pull to the right really bad. My right side caliper used to hang up if it sat for a while. I recently bought new ones from O'Reilly and it doesn't pull anymore.

Do you have the torque rod installed on the front axle? If not, that is it's main purpose, that of preventing steering pull during braking.

Actually that is missing I am sure it was removed when the lift was installed. Maybe the calipers are fine but I ain't gonna tell the wife that. Installing new calipers and rotors would be a good time for a knuckle rebuild..

basicly, yes its a calliper prob.

And, just be careful, a ball joint going out will do the same thing - ie. make your car pull to the right or left whichever side is going bad, I had a close call once right after I changed the brakes because I thought it would be all good, it wasn't.

I have an '84 xtra cab truck. It has a 4" Rancho(??) lift. It had the torque arm still on the truck, factory steering linkage, etc.
I took it to the Wabbit and had Hysteer, steering stabilizer, and a clutch put in. All I can say is WOW!! Hysteer is essential. Finally smooth steering, truck doesnt wander around, and going over bumps doesnt require me to hold the steering wheel with both hands while praying...

WabFab did great work, and it was worth me towing my truck 4.5hrs to have this done. I highly recommend the TrailGear components. Everthing fit great, and its very beefy.

After all this, I happened across a '91 2WD Toy truck at the 'yard. I snagged the booster and 1" master for $50.00. It literally bolted in my '84 4WD. I bled the brakes all the way around, and my truck stops as good as my wifes '10 FJ. Unbelivable the difference in braking input and result. Brakes are easy to apply, smooth, and very strong. Next I will do the V6 calipers and FJ60 rotors, but for now the squeezers from the factory are great!!

how do Marlin Crawler components compare to those from TrailGear?

I was actually going to get the Marlin or Allpro Hysteer kit. Due to all the politics of the TG guy "stealing" Marlins designs. But after not getting any replies from Marlin and Allpro, I was forced to give my business to TG.

Upon further inspection of the TG parts, I was very impressed with the components. Beefy, great quality. I was expecting cheap knock-offs, but I experienced excellent quality parts. The Hysteer arms are massive, the tie rod and draglink are massive, The pitman arm is a great improvement over stock. Everything is very overbuilt, especially for a daily driver. I ordered my parts through WabFab, who is here on Yotatech, and I highly recommend them. I will be ordering alot more TG stuff through the Wabbit...
