no oil in the oil filter

there is no oil in the oil filter and it only has 2 quarts of oil in the motor.would low amounts of oil cause no oil to get to the filter.

A few months and you only burned a quart or two? Perfectly normal. Every engine burns oil, in some amount or another.

Check your oil every month, and you will be fine.

Crappy filters will drain empty if they sit for a while. Was your old filter orange?

When you change your oil, you're supposed to do it on a hot engine, for maximum drainage. Hot oil drains faster and more thorougly than cold oil.

I use genuine Toyota filters, as they cost the same as everything else out there.

Losing up to a quart per 1000 miles is considered acceptable. 1L/1000km (1q/600mi) is considered borderline.

so if it sits for a while the filter will drain back into the pan.

If it sits for a day or two even, it will drain back. Unless you have a factory filter? Please tell me you do for your NEW engine.

Filter from the dealership is like $6. And the v8 spin-on filters fit fine, for the same price.

They're 3/4" longer than the v6 ones, so you get more filter media for the same price.

Around our shop, we stock the longer 4 cylinder ones (for corollas) and the v8 ones which fit all v6 and v8, as well as 22R.

Please if you like your vehicles do not use fram.... complete garbage..... the "spring" they use for there bypass is a stamped peice of sheetmetal Much like a canner lid, as soon as its been popped a couple of times its done. and well no more oil is being filtered just bypassed......
fleetguard, john deere, amsoil, oem toyota, etc...... WORTH THE EXTRA $1.00
