Need the BEST 22r Guy here! 84 22R
Ok heres the deal, im new to the forums i now have a real issue. As stated in my previous threads the truck was in the shop. all vacuum lines were wrong and the carb was chocked full of gunk. The guy is an older gentlemen i trust what he says hes been doing such for 30 years.....
Gave my truck back running better persay but worse.. if that makes sense In my sig it says the head has 11k miles on it... The number 2 cylinders valves or valve isnt closing persay and is allowing blowback into the chamber of the other cylinders. Basically it runs like crap. The guy we got it from did all the work himself using a book and no mechanical knowledge to my understanding..
Could he have put the head on and bolted everything down to hard not giving the valves any play causing the number 2 to not function properly?? When you disconnect the plug wire for the number 2 cylinder you can literally hear the engine smooth out but also.. loss of power and it vibrates like you wouldnt believe..
im wondering if he didnt use a filler gauge and give them the proper clearance and he just tightened them down till there wasnt movement. or could i have broken a valve spring

well some updated news.. i had the carb tuned up so it would run decently going through some basics i found that my cap and rotor were completely fried. replaced that and after letting it run and driving it around a bit it blew out and smoothed out even more.. with older toyotas arent you supposed to adjust your valves every 10-20k miles? i know its been atleast 11 since it was done so im gonna do that today after work.
Any other things i should look at? while im down in there?? im gonna make sure to look at my springs etc all advice is appreciated very much.

Just take off the valve cover. Takes a matter of minutes and take a look at the valves (stem part) and their adjustments. Just get in there and get dirty. Worse comes to worse you can rebuild the top end for roughly $500 (new/rebuilt everything) if you do it yourself. For the vacuum hoses, just get out the fsm and look at the diagrams and make sure your hoses are going to the right places. It won't get done by talking about it and the hose part won't be a quick job, but the sooner you get working on it then the sooner it will get done.
I'd start with the valves then move on to the hoses and go from there. Good luck and post up and I will try and help more. I'm no professional and in fact I have learned everything I know about these things from the people on this forum, but I have rebuilt the top end before.

adjusted valves instantly cleared up the motor still has a bit of a miss fire i think its partially from buildup from constantly running wrong.. im driving it on a 2 hour trip from here to apache lake for a camping trip, it continues to sound better just driving it around town.
