Moab, Apr 20-22, 2007: slide shows
Was out in Moab meeting my dad to wheel with some friends of his. Did Steel Bender on Friday afternoon. We didn't do the full loop, but took the abbreviated version of it, running from north to south.
Here's a slide show of Steel Bender's slick rock section
Here's a slide show of the Wall section
On Saturday, we rode MTB on part of the Slickrock Trail, and then drove Hell's Revenge. Actually did Hell's Gate in an IFS rig!
Here's a short slide show of Hell's Revenge.
Sunday morning, we were down to two vehicles for Moab Rim. Ol' Blue made it up Z-Ledge w/o a winch assist this time. Better line and Marlin rear bumper!
Here's a short slide show of Moab Rim.
Just got a few scrapes on my BudBuilt Belly pan and a few scrapes on the MC rear bumper.

Cool pics... can't wait to go back. I have only run a few trails so far in Moab, and none of the ones you mentioned.
I like the slide show idea. I'll have to give that a try.
On my computer, some of the pics aren't there. States been moved or deleted. Maybe it's just me.

I thought the approach to Hell's Gate was WAY worse than the obstacle itself...
Moab Rim is about the limit for my truck/ability - the Zturn is a tough obstacle for our wheelbase! I definitely want to try it again and see if I've improved!

As far as the Rim / Z-Ledge: I went about as far uphill as I could. I actually did a 4 point turn and backed up into the pull-off area to get my tail up high and then hugged pretty close to the tree. I'll have to get my video put up. Another good wheel stand.
Molly, my vote would be for early Oct. for a trip out there. Did you / TC / others do Escalator when you were there in Dec '06?? Seemed like everyone with a narrower wheel base (less than fullsize) were hitting their passenger rear corner, when I was there this time.

Hells Gate really isn't that tough. It looks bad from the top and even crazier from the bottom. Once you drive it, it isn't bad at all. Of course, I had it in dual ultimate low so that helps
I wanted to try Escalator but I don't have a front bumper and would have taken quite a bit of damage to my headlights and fenders. Not that I care about body damage but I'd like to keep the headlight in tact.
Looks like a great trip!

Yes, some of us ran escalator when we were there in December. I wasn't one of them. I almost stalled on Hell's Gate (and to prevent it from happening again, pretty well skinnied my way up) and figured I was pushing my luck with escalator. Three tacos went up no problem though. I would be all for going in the winter again - $29/night for the hotel!

New Video (finally) of Moab Rim: Z-Ledge
Finally got around to slapping something together of conquering the Z-ledge without pulling a winch cable. However, I almost got my spotter when he tried to give me a little more confidence by holding down the front bumper Even with the single 4.7 gears, it doesn't crawl that slow, compared to the pickup that I was with. He had a Klune V underdrive, along with low gears all the way through. He had about 300:1 crawl ratio, while mine is just 64:1
I'll get some video up of the pickup climbing, later.
Edit: after seeing the video, I realized that I could have never made it with the old SmittyBilt bumper, unless I pulled the winch cable out. Had to have that hi-clearance MC bumper...
